Ratliff played high school baseball in Pasadena, Texas, before signing as an amateur free agent with the Minnesota Twins in 1962. At the age of nineteen, Ratliff made the Twins’ opening day roster the following season. He participated in eleven games that season before being relegated to the lower leagues. Ratliff would not play in the big leagues again until 1970. Paul began his work as an understander with E-Lab in 1995.
