She began her career in Cairo and Jerusalem as a news reporter and correspondent for the Reuters News Agency. She later relocated to the US, where she was granted citizenship.
She began working as managing editor of Women’s eNews’ Arabic-language edition in 2003. She also began contributing a weekly column to Asharq Al-Awsat.
Her job wasn’t always comfortable and enjoyable. While reporting a rally in Tahir Square, Mona was once detained in Cairo. She suffered physical and sexual abuse as a result of which she shattered her left and right arms.
She was detained once more in 2012 for defacing an American Freedom Defence Initiative advertisement with spray paint. She had to endure hardship, yet she never gave up and continued working.
A good outcome and praise follow beautiful labour. Nobody can argue that Mona did not earn any of the several major accolades she has received over her career. She received the highly coveted Women’s Media Center Speaking Truth to Power Award in 2014. She was named one of Arabian Business’ 100 Most Powerful Arab Women.
This incident took place in 2012. The Anna Lindh Foundation presented Mona with a Special Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism in 2010. She received this honor from the huge American Society for Muslim Advancement. Additionally, she was named Distinguished Visiting Professor at the large American University in Cairo in 2006.

Egypt’s Port Said is where Mona Eltahawy was born on August 1st, 1967. Her family later relocated to Saudi Arabia and subsequently the UK. She is both American and Egyptian by nationality. Her ethnicity is currently unknown.
She mentioned that she had attended the American University of Cairo and graduated from there. She later obtained a master’s degree in journalism with a journalism specialization.
Is Mona Married To Husband?
Mona has so far maintained a very quiet profile in her personal life. However, a quick look at her Twitter account reveals that she has made mention of having a husband. She stated having a spouse with whom she had already divorced on October 31, 2012.
Again in 2013, she made a hint about having a husband in a tweet. But nothing can be claimed at the time because she has never revealed or shown her husband.
People have also conjectured that she is a lesbian, but as she has never acknowledged her sexual orientation, nothing can be presumed. She may be single right now because she hasn’t shared anything about her relationship.
