Mikel Arteta started his football career at Antiguoko, where he met and befriended Xabi Alonso, a midfielder with whom he played every weekend. They used to play on San Sebastian’s beaches and gutters, and they aspired to play together at Real Sociedad. Arteta signed a €5.2 million contract with Real Sociedad in 2004 to play with Xabi Alonso. He came to Liverpool but failed to make an impact on the club.
