Professional Life And Career
When he was in college, Mike Gundy played quarterback for the Oklahoma State University Cowboys. He began his collegiate coaching career in 1990 at his alma mater as the wide receivers coach. In 1991, Gundy was promoted to the position of quarterbacks coach, and again in 1994, to that of offensive coordinator. Five years later, he left to teach quarterbacks at Baylor before moving on to coach wide receivers at Maryland.
The official coach, Bob Simmons, left in 2001. The two candidates at the time were Miles and Mike Gundy. They were consequently chosen for the positions of head coach and coordinator, respectively.
