He made his debut at the World Youth Championship. Juan finished his year on a high note by taking first place in the 7.76m jump at the 2015 Pan American Junior Championship in Edmonton, Canada.

He did not have the best day in 2016, finishing fifth in the World U20 Championships after jumping 7.78m. Going through the leaderboards, he was only 10 centimeters away from the top spot.

Despite only competing in the U18 categories twice, Juan was selected to compete with the big boys at the IAAF World Championship in 2017, representing Cuba internationally.

But, much to his dismay, he was unable to qualify for the finals after jumping 7.86m, his best figures to date.

Juan made his senior debut the following year in the Karlsruhe World Indoor Championship, where he finished first with a whopping 8.46m, his personal best to that point.
