Meredith’s Married Life
Richard Merrill, an American journalist, television producer, and author, is the love of Meredith’s life. On June 14, 1986, three years after their initial meeting, the pair got married. They did not experience love at first sight. They did not have a favorable first impression of one another.
Meredith kept dating Richard even after he admitted to having multiple sclerosis (a disabling disease of the central nervous system). Meredith never let the opinions of others—even when they were critical of their alliance—come between them. However, having a chronic illness in the family undoubtedly had an impact on their lives.
In his 2005 biography Blindsided and his book Chasing Hope: A Patient’s Deep Dive into Stem Cells, Faith, and the Future, Richard covered much of this ground.
The marriage of Meredith and Richards has experienced many ups and downs. Tragically, they experienced four miscarriages.
The pair is content to have one another in their lives today. Colon cancer is something Richard is fighting. He has trouble using his legs and feet because he is legally blind.
He is grateful for the years he has spent with his wife and their three healthy children, Benjamin, Lily, and Grabiel, and he is still looking forward to life.
Meredith and Richards delightedly informed the media of their son Grabiel’s most recent engagement.
