Maren Morris, an Arlington, Texas native, first became interested in music when she was a young child. When she first picked up a guitar at age 12, she quickly began penning songs. She signed with Mozzi Blozzi Music at age 15 and released her debut record, Walk On. While Morris was a student at the University of North Texas, a second independent album called All That It Takes was released on Smith in 2007. In 2011, after releasing her third independent album, Live Wire, she moved to Nashville. The lead single, “My Church,” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America after peaking at #5 on the Hot Country Songs list and selling more than 2,400 copies in its first week. For “My Church,” she took home the 2017 Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance.
After experiencing enormous success with her EP and the track “My Church,” Morris signed with Columbia Nashville and released her first studio album for a major label. Rich, I Could Use a Love Song, and 80s Mercedes were a few of the well-known singles from the album “Hero,” which was released on June 3, 2016. It gained acclaim from all over the world and topped Rolling Stone’s list of the “40 Best Country Albums of 2016.” It was named ninth on Billboard’s list of the “50 Best Albums of 2016” as well.
