Career

The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services under Mayor Willie Brown allowed London Breed to work there as an intern. She was chosen to serve as the African American Art & Culture Complex’s executive director in 2002. In November of the same year, she won the election for District 5 supervisor. On January 8, 2015, she also won the election for President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She was also unanimously elected to serve another two-year term as Board President on January 9, 2017.

London served as the Board of Supervisors’ President from January 23, 2018, until her appointment as Acting Mayor of the city in 2017.
