She was reared on a military installation in Okinawa despite being born in Lafayette, Louisiana. In the Air Force, her father was stationed there.

Liz performed countless repairs on the military command center in Okinawa, and two results astounded her.

In 2004, Carmouche enlisted in the Marines. She later changed careers and worked as a flight electrician for five years, supporting three tours of duty in Iraq.

At the Invicta Matching Championships 2 on July 28, 2012, Carmouche tackled Kaitlin Young and won the match via submission thanks to a rear-naked choke in the second half.
