Jusuf Nurkic: Early Life, Age, Wiki, Parents, Ethnicity

Jusuf Nurkik was born to Jasmine and Hariz Nurkic in Zinivice, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on August 23, 1994. He was raised in a religious household starting at a very young age because both of his parents are devout Muslims.

Hariz, his father, works as a policeman in Tuzla. Hariz is 7 feet 2 inches tall and has a huge build. The player attempted to pursue a basketball career as a young man but was unsuccessful.

Jasmine, Nurkic’s mother, is a stay-at-home mom. In addition, he lives with his grandma and younger brother Kenan.

The young Juka was raised and educated in his hometown of Tuzla. Being obese and of ordinary height, he spent most of his childhood watching television. Nurkic, in contrast to his father, had no desire to participate in athletics. He enjoyed watching football, though.

Nurkic’s journey to the basketball court is an intriguing one. The father of Bosnian sports agent Enes Trnovcevic was mentioned in a magazine.

He reached out to Hariz after being moved by the senior Nurkic’s narrative. Enes suggested taking his small son along so that he could provide him with better instruction to become a basketball player as a result.

In 2012, Jusuf started his professional career. After leaving Lasko, he signed up to practice with the Croatian team Cedevita for a few months. The club and Nurkic agreed to a contract in October 2012.

He did not, however, see a lot of action during his rookie campaign. He had poor stats given that he usually played in extra time. Additionally, he played in 6 EuroLeague games but only managed to average 1.8 points per game.

In the second season, he participated in a comparatively greater number of games. He produced amazing numbers, as was to be expected. He averaged 11.6 points per game while playing for the team in about 28 Adriatic League games.

Before entering the NBA draft, Denver Nuggets player Jusuf had already attained international notoriety. But on June 26, 2014, the Chicago Bulls selected him with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

Surprisingly, the team traded him the same night to the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. On July 31, he and the Nuggets inked a contract. He made his team debut against the Detroit Pistons, with five points and seven rebounds.

Nurkic ended his rookie season with a season-high 17 points against the Golden State Warriors while taking part in 62 games for the Nuggets. He also had a season average of 6.9 points and 6.2 rebounds.

The club extended his contract for another year on October 11, 2015. But a tendon ailment kept him away from the floor for almost two months. In his second season, he played in 32 games, scoring 8.2 points and grabbing 5.5 rebounds per contest.

In the first games of the 2016–17 season, Nurkic started at center for the team. In their opening game of the season against the New Orleans Pelicans, he scored a new career-best of 23 points. Throughout the rest of the season, he continued to play well.

He was, however, supplanted by Nikola Jokic and sat on the bench for the season’s last games. He eventually asked for the trade, although the team was originally hesitant.

On February 13, 2017, he was finally sent to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Los Angeles Lakers

He received greater playing time from the Blazers, and he gave the team his all. His club won significant games under his leadership, particularly in the first two and a half years, and he set numerous personal records.

He scored 14.3 points and grabbed 9.0 rebounds per game in the 2017–18 season. The following season, he had even better statistics. In 72 games, he scored 15.6 points and grabbed 10.4 rebounds on average.

Sadly, he ended the 2018–19 season with a leg injury. By the beginning of the 2019–20 season in March, Nurkic was supposed to return. He did not fully recover, and he was forced to take a break until July 31, 2020.

After a protracted injury, Nurkic played his first game of the season against the Memphis Grizzlies and recorded 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks. He only participated in 7 games in the 2019–20 campaign.

At the start of 2021, he sustained a wrist injury once more and lost around two months of play. He soon made a comeback, though, and participated in 37 games in the 2020–21 campaign.

The Bosnian is still playing for the Blazers in the 2021–22 season, despite considerable media speculation that he may be traded. The Toronto Raptors are reportedly interested in signing him for a fresh season.
