On August 30, 1963, in Dorchester, Massachusetts (Boston), John King was born. He is of Irish ancestry and is an American national.

John attended Boston Latin School for both his elementary and high school education. He earned a journalism bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island’s Harrington School of Communication and Media.

In 1985, John King started working as a writer for the Associated Press. John was appointed chief political correspondent in 1991, where he oversaw the AP’s political coverage of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections. For his coverage of the Gulf War in Kuwait, he received the top reporting honor from the Associated Press Managing Editors’ Association in 1991.

John began working for CNN in 1997, and from 1999 to 2005 he was the network’s senior White House correspondent. When he was appointed CNN’s lead national reporter in 2005, his career reached new heights.

Inside Politics, a Sunday morning news program currently has John as its anchor. The show includes a rotating roundtable of media professionals who speak with King about current political issues.

Before the 2009 US presidential inauguration, John also hosted his chat show State of the Union before Inside Politics.

John King, USA, his new evening program, debuted on March 22, 2010. On May 2, 2011, he was the CNN anchor who initially informed the network’s viewers that Osama Bin Laden had passed away.

Prior to the South Carolina Primary on January 19, 2012, John moderated a Republican presidential debate. Early in 2012, his program John King, USA was discontinued. The final episode aired on June 29, 2012.
