Koum Apologized To His Ex-Girlfriend

Evalina is not the only person with a noteworthy former relationship, though. In 2014, the former CEO of WhatsApp made headlines when he opened up about a previous relationship.

Business Insider claims that Koum’s ex-girlfriend from college accused him of making threats against her and sought a restraining order against him in 1996.

Koum issued a statement expressing regret for his previous actions, adding,

“After we split up, I believe I acted irrationally and inappropriately. I regret how I behaved and regret that I had her file a lawsuit as a result of my actions. I sincerely regret what I did.”

Positive feedback for his honest apologies came from many people, and Facebook later issued a statement praising Koum’s sincerity in accepting responsibility for the incident that took place decades ago.

A Short Bio

Along with being popular for his dating past in 2014, Koum also made headlines for selling WhatsApp to Facebook that same year with his co-founders.

Koum, whose net worth unexpectedly increased to $6.8 billion after selling the talking app, was raised in a home with an average salary.

Koum was born in Ukraine in 1976, but due to the country’s turbulent political situation at the time, his family was forced to relocate to Mountain View, California.

His mother took him away from his homeland, but his father never made it there and died in 1997. Koum’s mother also lost away from cancer later, in 2000.

He was adopted at an early age, and he completed his education by enrolling at San Jose State University. However, after being employed by Yahoo in 1997, he quickly left school.

Later, he developed the widely used messaging software WhatsApp, and in 2014, after selling it to Facebook, he accepted an invitation to join Facebook’s board of directors.

Before selling WhatsApp for 19 billion dollars, Koum had already established himself on the list of billionaires, and ever since, he has never fallen below that threshold.
