Her second child was born in December 2008 after she fell pregnant a second time.

Since Helen, like everyone else, fought to reach the pinnacle of her profession, her meteorology career wasn’t secure. She began working at the Met Office in February 1994, when she completed a five-month forecaster training program. She previously competed internationally for Wales in badminton before joining the Met Office.

In 1994, Helen relocated to Cardiff, where she worked from 1995 to 1996. Then, starting in 1995, she made appearances as a forecaster on Welsh BBC Television and Radio. She relocated to the BBC Weather Centre in London in 1997 to join BBC News. Additionally, she frequently appears on BBC One, BBC News, BBC World News, BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live, and BBC Radio 2. On occasion, she forecasts the weather for the BBC News Channel and BBC News at Ten.
