After the two were spotted together at a Baltimore bar, the suspicions started to spread. Soon after, Jason Varitek and his wife of ten years filed for divorce, which led some people to question whether Heidi and Jason were actually dating at the time.

Both of them declined to comment, and when Jason remarried Catherine Panagiotopoulos in 2011, the rumors and charges made by Heidi were dropped. Because of this, Heidi and Jason could only be very close friends. Her parents, Mike Watney, and Paula Watney, and brother Josh Watney make up her family. Heidi attended Clovis High. Heidi joined the cheerleading squad in high school because she loved it.

Heidi attended the University of San Diego after high school, where she received an academic scholarship and earned her degree with honors in 2003. She later made the decision to enter the Miss California Pageant. She received the first-runner-up award even though she did not take home the championship.

She began working as a weekend sports anchor for KMPH-TV, a sizable television network, after 2008.

For a program named Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Heidi was given the chance to act as a sideline reporter. She made a risky choice in 2012 when she left Time Warner and joined MLB Network.
