In Ghana, Edward Enninful was born on February 22, 1972. Later, once his parents moved to London’s Ladbroke Grove, he and his five siblings were brought up there. He was inspired by his mother’s use of vibrantly patterned colors and textiles because she was a seamstress.
Career- Vogue
When Edward was 16 years old, stylist Simon Foxton noticed him on a train and gave him his first taste of fashion. Then, alongside British fashion photographer Nicholas David Gordon “Nick” Knight, he posed for Simon and took photographs with him at his home. He worked as a model for two years before being hired as i-fashion D’s director at the age of 18, making him the magazine’s youngest-ever fashion director.
He started working for Calvin Klein at the age of 22. Edward has even served as an advisor on various commercial campaigns and runway shows, including those for Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, Comme des Garçons, Mulberry, Fendi, Hugo Boss, and Missoni.
In 1998, Edward finally succeeded in landing a job as a contributing editor at Italian Vogue, where he oversaw the publication of the magazine’s “Black Issue.” He later joined American Vogue in 2006 as a contributing fashion editor before taking over as editor-in-chief of British Vogue in 2017.
Coming Out Story
When Edward Enninful was 21 years old, he initially came out as gay. When questioned by Attitude magazine why so few homosexual men openly confess their sexuality, he responded,
“It’s like Hollywood’s image of the perfect man and this old notion of what it meant to be a man and that this perfect man couldn’t be gay. We know that’s wrong.”
When Edward initially started modeling, he also experienced racism. He nevertheless persisted in living his life, and as a result, he is now a well-known figure in the field.
As standard.co.uk reported in January 2019, partner Edward Enninful has been married to WEBBY Award-winning Director and Editor Alec Maxwell for 15 years. The two of them share the title of Digital Creative Director at Large.
At an event Edward was hosting, they first ran into each other. Their first encounter quickly developed into a romance, and they soon became engaged.
Since then, the couple has participated in a number of events together. For instance, on May 17, 2019, they walked the red carpet at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France, for the 10th Annual Filmmakers Dinner.
