Dennis was an African immigrant from Cape Coast, the central area of Ghana. He fled Ghana at the age of 23. Dennis traveled to Moordrecht, Holland, where he met with a local girl Cora Schensema at a train station in pursuit of a better life. Although Cora’s parents did not support their relationship they eventually were married in 1990. Memphis is the sole child of Dennis and Cora, born after four years of their marriage.
