Kelly (full name Christopher Kelly) was born on November 11, 1980, under the sign of Scorpio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Kelly started playing ice hockey at a young age. As an amateur in the Clarington Recreational Hockey League, he began to appear in games. He then went on to play with the Clarington Toros AA program.
Later, Chris was a member of the Toronto Marlboros minor ice hockey team, who competed in the 1994 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. Following that, he spent a year as a junior with the Aurora Tigers.
Chris then advanced to the major junior level via the 1997 OHL Priority Selection. He was the 56th overall pick in the fourth round at the time, and he began his career with the London Knights.
He also played with the Sudbury Wolves, when he set a career-high with 36 goals. In 25 games during his junior playoffs season, he had nine goals and 26 points.
Senators of Ottawa
Chris joined the 1999 NHL Draft shortly after his junior year. The Ottawa Senators selected him with the 94th overall pick. During that time, he played for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Again, he spent three complete seasons with the Binghamton Senators in the same league. He played for the United Hockey League after four seasons in the AHL (UHL).
He played four games with the Muskegon Fury before returning to the AHL. Chris became the club captain in Binghamton for two seasons towards the end of his debut season.
Chris made his NHL debut on February 5, 2004, five years later. He appeared in four games during his first season. However, after becoming a lineman the following season, he appeared in all 82 games.
Chris’ contract was nearing its conclusion by 2007, and he renewed it with a one-year contract at the start. It was valued at $1.263 million at the time, and he renewed it a year later into a four-year deal extension worth $8.5 million.
Bruins of Boston
On February 15, 2011, the Senators traded Chis Kelly to the Boston Bruins. He did have a good start with the squad, as he helped them win the Stanley Cup.
Another highlight of his career occurred when he scored the game-winning goal in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. Within two seasons, rumors of his return to the Senators appeared; however, this was simply a rumor.
Chris re-signed his deal with the organization in 2012, anticipating it to be extended for four more years for $12 million. The NHL, on the other hand, rejected the agreement, citing “payroll tagging concerns.”
Similarly, Chris had his first chance at a penalty shot in his NHL career in 2013. Well, an opportunity was taken advantage of, as he scored against goaltender Anders Lindbäck.
With his first penalty shot for the Bruins, Chris began a season in which he scored two goals in eleven games.

Returning to the Ottawa Senators
Chris Kelly returned to the Ottawa Senators for a year following his injury. In 2016, he appeared in all 82 games and scored 12 points.
Chris became an unrestricted free agent when his one-year contract with the Senators expired. In addition, in September 2017, he participated in the Edmonton Oilers’ summer tryout.
He also attended the team’s training session but did not join the group. Later, he joined the Belleville Senators, the AHL’s new affiliate. Chris did receive a tryout deal with the same organization near the end of 2018.
The Anaheim Ducks
Chris Kelly signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks before retiring. Chris participated in twelve games and had two assists during his year on the club.
International Competitions
Chris Kelly competed in the 2017 Spengler Cup after a tryout with the Belleville Senators. He did contribute to Team Canada’s victory.
