Indian classical dancer Chhavi Verg is well recognized for winning the prestigious titles of Miss New Jersey USA 2017 and Miss USA 1st Runner Up 2017. Since winning, she has been promoting women’s equality, empowerment, and education while bearing the burden of the title on her shoulders.

Uses Her Platform For Community Empowerment

Chhavi Verg has always been eager and passionate about educating and empowering women. She has taken part in numerous activities advancing this cause. But her voice and body of work now have more length thanks to her success in beauty pageants. She wants to have a bigger impact on the neighborhood through this.

While still a college student, she won the title of Miss New Jersey in 2017. The following year, she competed in the Miss USA pageant and placed as the first runner-up. The second Indian-American to ever win Miss New Jersey is a fervent supporter of women’s equality.

She has volunteered for social welfare and charitable groups like the United Service Organization, Forefront, WE, Smile Train, and Make A Wish Foundation in an effort to live up to her convictions about giving back to the community.

Verg was also a part of the Women BUILD program at Rutgers University, which aimed to empower women by giving them the chance to develop their leadership skills.

Verg gave speeches at Forefront, the National Federation of Indian Americans Association, and a multicultural event at McNair High School in New Jersey, sharing her inspirational thoughts.

How It All Began For Chhavi Verg

At the tender age of four, she and her family moved to the United States; everything was brand-new. She experienced her fair share of difficult growing-up years, entangled in the stigma of unattainable beauty ideals, like many adolescents. But back then, she had never once considered taking part in a beauty pageant.

The speaker gave a brief account of her road to winning a beauty competition in a January 2019 Instagram post. Verg posted her older photo with her more recent one as part of the “10 Years Challenge” social media craze. She intended for the post to deliver a significant message.

Verg writes in an unafraid manner about her teenage insecurities:

I was called ugly a couple of times by the guys in my class. In high school, I sometimes found myself wishing that I could be beautiful like my mom, my best friend, or the actresses I saw in movies. Doing a beauty pageant was NEVER on the radar.

She now, however, accepts her history and believes that her prior events shaped who she is now.

In addition, when discussing her inspiration for her success with Shoutout LA, she cited a proverb she first read in seventh grade: “Aim for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” She is inspired to move forward and step beyond of her comfort zone by the quote. She stated:

Setting goals for myself that are so ambitious that I frequently have no idea where to start is one of the things I believe has contributed most to my success in life. I make the decision that the objective can be reached and begin looking into how to do so.
