Charlie pursued a career that led him to a prominent position in the Nashville music industry after starting out as a teen announcer on his hometown radio station in Geneva, Alabama.

Monk’s Career
Prior to moving to the music capital of Nashville for a broadcasting position in 1968, Monk quickly made the transition from writing to the on-air job and published his work in many Alabama areas, including Troy, Movile, and Tuscaloosa.
When Monk worked with Keith Stegall and Jim McBride, among many others, he soon started to see small success as a songwriter. He eventually made the switch to the music industry via ASCAP.
When discussing his desire to write songs, Monk mentioned:
“I had a drive to write and believed I had talent when I moved to Nashville.”
Monk joined CBS to launch the organization’s April-Blackwood Music publishing unit in Nashville after spending seven years there. In 1983, he established Monk Family Music Group, his own business.
Through his publishing companies, Monk hired Randy Travis, supported Kenny Chesney’s career, and developed the abilities of many budding composers.
In addition, Monk started working at the record label Acuff-Rose. After a brief while, he joined various associations as a member.

Additionally, he was inducted into the “Alabama Music Hall of Fame” in 2014.
