Candis Cayne is one of those faces. She gained notoriety after playing the first transgender character in a primetime television show on ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money.
Childhood Memories
From a young age, Candis was different from her fraternal twin brother. Her brother was an intelligent football player who later received a football scholarship to Linfield College in Oregon. Candis, on the other hand, enjoyed playing with Barbie dolls and hanging out with her companions.
Candis experienced bullying at school as a result of her unusual conduct, mostly from the boys. They were really disrespectful to him and would refer to him as queer. However, Candis’ parents were extremely liberal and continued to support him in his choices.
Journey of Transition
Candis started transitioning when she was 24 years old, in 1996. The transgender club doorwoman sold her some black-market hormone drugs, and she underwent surgery in Guadalajara, Mexico. When she called her parents after the change and informed them of her surgery, her father responded,
Since I’ve never seen you in any other light and it now makes perfect sense, I say, “Well that makes so much more sense, you being a lady rather than a gay man.”
Candis continued, “Her brother was also at ease with the adjustment.”
Moreover, Candis used to think of herself as a drag queen before learning what it meant to be transgender.
Relationship Status
Marco McDermott, a DJ, and Candis were dating. They started dating in 2002, and they also had wedding plans at the time.
Candis was not only a devoted and loving girlfriend while they were together, but she also assisted Marco in raising his daughter Satori (from his previous relationship).
Sadly, Candis and Marco called it quits in 2010.
