In 2020-21, both sides of the Privateers had seven all-conference singles and two doubles honors under his supervision.

Kanga previously coached at UNO from 1986 to 1989 and again from 2003 to 2006 until the program was halted due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Kanga achieved an 81-9 record while playing for the UNO and the New Orleans and became the only member of any UNO tennis team to earn All-American honors. He was a senior in college at the time.

He was the top player in Louisiana for the under-21 age group during his stint on the UNO team. He was also on the professional player list for the satellite tennis circuits in the United States, Europe, and Mexico.

Kanga and Kotb met on Valentine’s Day in New Orleans at an American Heart Association event. Hoda, who is of Egyptian descent, was a news anchor for a small station in New Orleans at the time of their meeting. Kanga and Kotb dated on and off for years before marrying.

In May 2005, the strategist proposed to the broadcast journalist. The pair married in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in the same year.

The Cause of Their Divorce

The anchor filed for divorce on February 15, 2007, indicating that their marriage will not continue forever.

The former collegiate athlete later claimed that the divorce was somewhat shocking to him. In an interview with Radar Online in January 2018, the Today show host’s ex-husband revealed the details of their divorce.

“We had several disagreements. My father was in poor health. She was sick. It was a trying moment. Both of us have personal motives for doing so.”

He did not, however, reveal the nature of Kotb’s ailment. Nonetheless, his wife later revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2007. When Hoda announced her split on air, she also revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In March 2007, Kotb reportedly underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer.

On the other hand, AD Kanga explained that divorce occurred in tough circumstances. He noted that both of them had personal reasons. The New Orleans native also stated that his lack of maturity was a problem.

He expressed regret at his marriage’s premature demise and how it occurred. Kanga also stated that coming to New York from New Orleans to be with his ex-wife strained their relationship. The enormous apple was intimidating to him.
