Amaury Nolasco was born to Dominican parents on December 24, 1970, as Amaury Nolasco Garrido in Puerto Rico. He has a sibling and a brother. Deborah, his sister, passed away in 2010.

He attended the University of Puerto Rico full-time, majoring in biology with the goal of becoming a doctor. He received his training at the American British Dramatic Arts School, nevertheless, after relocating to New York.

In 2006, Amaury Nolasco started dating American television personality Andrea Pambechy. They dated for almost a year before calling it quits in 2007.

In 2007, he was said to be dating Dayanara Torres, a Puerto Rican model, beauty queen, and Miss Universe 1993. Early in June 2007, they were spotted out in public together in Los Angeles while attending the MTV Movie Awards, Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, and Alma Awards.

However, after dating for around eight months, Amaury and Dayanara broke up in March 2008. Then, in 2008, Amaury was connected to American actress and model Katie Cleary.

Amaury Nolasco was introduced to acting and given the opportunity to appear in his first television commercial by a director who approached him while he was a student in Puerto Rico.

He then made appearances in major motion pictures including the 1997 film Fall, when he was cast in an uncredited role as a waiter, after moving to New York and learning acting. He was granted a brief part in the TV show New York Undercover the following year.

Following that, he played Pedro Mendoza in the TV show Early Edition in 1999, and Victor in the film Brother in 2000.

He appeared in two movies in 2003: The Librarians as Minadeo and 2 Fast 2 Furious as Orange Julius. Then, in the popular TV series Prison Break, he had his breakthrough in 2005 as Fernando Sucre. In the films Street Kings and Max Payne in 2008, he played the roles of Detective Cosmos Santos and Jack Lupino, respectively.

In the television series Chase, he was cast in a recurring role as Marco Martinez from 2010 to 2011, and in the television series Work It, he played the pivotal character of Angel Ortiz from 2012 to 2013.

Amaury then started to earn a variety of significant roles in both movies and TV shows. He portrayed Rodrigo Suarez in the Telenovela series from 2015 to 2016 as well as FBI Agent Mike Alvarez in the television series Deception. In the movies Criminal and Speed Kills, he was also depicted as Esteban Ruiza and Agent Lopez, respectively.
