From 2000 to 2007, Adam Rippon was coached by Yelena Sergeeva. At the 2005 U.S. Championships, he won his first silver medal at the Novice level.

Adam competed in the Junior Division the same year and won his first gold medal. Similarly, Adam made his ISU Junior Grand Prix debut in the 2005-06 season.
