With the approaching Halloween season, we’re going to be updating our list of anime characters who wield scythes!
The scythe, which is associated with Death, is an incredible weapon in the right hands; however, it is not only deadly, but also an aesthetic marvel! In true Halloween style, we’ll be shining a spotlight on these characters and celebrating their mastery of a legendary weapon!
10. Inasa Kirio – Ushio to Tora
Aotsuki Ushio, 15, is the energetic and obstinate son of a strange temple priest. His father had often told him stories about youkai monsters, but Ushio dismissed them as mere folklore.
When Ushio’s father is away on business, Ushio discovers a terrifying youkai impaled by the legendary Beast Spear, pinned to the basement wall for the past five centuries by the legendary Beast Spear.
The beast tries to persuade Ushio to let him go, and Ushio reluctantly agrees, but a sudden youkai outbreak threatens Ushio’s friends’ lives.
With no one else to turn to for assistance, Ushio enlists the assistance of Tora, the basement youkai, with the Beast Spear as his only guarantee that Tora will not get out of hand. Thus begins an unlikely duo’s journey through the terrifying supernatural world.
Inasa Kirio is one of the few people who could have wielded the Beast Spear on the planet.
He’s an experimented-on human who’s been subjected to a series of tests and modifications that have resulted in a top-notch youkai-killing machine.
He wields the Elzar Scythe, but he is also deadly when fighting up close and personal.
9. Haqua – The World God Only Knows
Katsuragi Keima, also known as the legendary “God of Conquest” on the internet, is capable of conquering any girl’s heart in a dating sim game.
He is unable to appreciate much else due to his obsession with the two-dimensional world of gaming. When Keima accepts an anonymous offer to prove his mastery of dating sims, he is duped into assisting a naive demon named Elucia “Elsie” de Lute Ima with her mission: to retrieve runaway evil spirits who have escaped into the human world and scattered themselves.
The only way for Keima to capture these spirits is to conquer what he despises the most: three-dimensional girls’ unpredictable hearts! Keima has no choice but to put his title of “God of Conquest” to the ultimate test, navigating the heats of several real-life girls, shackled to Elsie with a deadly collar!
Lot’s Haqua Elsie’s best friend is a demon named Herminium (contrary to whatever she says). She was one of the brightest students in her class, graduating at the top.
She can wield a scythe dangerously well, to the point where she can make the weapon emit azure flames that can be used as projectiles! Aside from the scythe, Haqua can also cast spells.
8. Zorin Blitz – Hellsing Ultimate
Many people are unaware that creatures of darkness and evil lurk in the shadows, waiting to pounce on unwary humans.
Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, who commands a powerful military dedicated to fighting the undead, is at the helm of the Hellsing organization, which is dedicated to eliminating these unholy forces.
Her army, on the other hand, pales in comparison to Alucard, the vampire. Alucard battles all who oppose Hellsing with the help of his new vampire servant, Seras Victoria, in order to ensure the survival of humanity.
Zorin Blitz, First Lieutenant, is a vampirina with short, spiky hair, a muscular body, and a mean streak! Her sadistic personality appears to be leagues above the various Hell’s emissaries.
She charges into battle with illusionary abilities, superhuman speed and strength, mind reading, and the ability to effortlessly wield a massive scythe!
7. Ruby Rose – RWBY
Remnant’s fantasy world is full of dangerous monsters and treacherous terrain, making life a daily struggle. Beacon Academy, on the other hand, is a school dedicated to preparing Huntsmen and Huntresses for battle against these evils.
Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are four Beacon Academy students getting ready for their first day of school. What will they find at their new school?
Ruby Rose, the main character in the RWBY series, is also known as “Crescent Rose,” the name of her weapon. She designed the Crescent Rose, a High-Calibre Sniper-Scythe that can transform from a scythe to a sniper rifle.
She uses the recoil from firing rounds to aid her movement in combat, allowing her to deal with a large number of enemies while pirouetting gracefully through the chaos.
6. Erigor – Fairy Tail
Magic is a part of everyday life in the Kingdom of Fiore. As a result, like-minded wizards and mages formed magic guilds where they could accept job requests and find companionship.
Fairy Tail is a well-known guild known for its strong sense of family. Lucy Heartfilia, a 17-year-old mage who dreams of joining Fairy Tail, sets out to find the guild. Natsu Dragneel and his partner Happy, who are searching for Natsu’s foster father, the dragon Igneel, meet her on her way.
When Lucy is kidnapped by a strange man, Natsu arrives to save the day, revealing himself to be the Salamander… Fairy Tail’s fabled Salamander! Natsu offers to take Lucy back to the Fairy Tail guild, where she meets and becomes one of several interesting characters.
Lucy fights the forces of evil alongside Fairy Tail and embarks on a number of exciting adventures that never end.
In the Fairy Tail anime, Erigor is a minor antagonist who wields wind magic. He was a member of the Eisenwald Dark Guild, and his nickname was “Shinigami” (God of Death), a reference to the fact that he only took assassination jobs.
The fact that he owns a scythe emphasizes this image even more. Following the time jump, Erigor joined Oracion Seis as “Grim Reaper.”
5. Zack – Angels of Death
thirteen-year-old Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in an abandoned building’s basement. She has no idea where she is because her memories have vanished, and she wanders the building in search of answers.
She comes across a man named Zack who is covered in bandages and wields a scythe. They form an odd bond as they work together to get out of this strange building and figure out why they were there in the first place.
The first person Rachel encounters while trapped in the building is Isaac Foster, also known as “Zack.
” Because of his involvement in several cases, he is a serial killer on the run. Zack is the quintessential “bad guy,” wrapped in bandages and always under the “visor” of his hoodie, wielding a massive scythe in combat, which only adds to his menacing appearance.
4. L’Arc Berg – Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero)
The Four Cardinal Heroes are a group of everyday Japanese men who are summoned to the Kingdom of Melromarc in order to save it from the Waves of Catastrophe.
The Waves have left a trail of death and destruction in their wake on numerous occasions. The heroes are each given a unique weapon: one wields a spear, another a sword, and yet another a bow; however, Iwatani Naofumi is unimpressed when he learns that he will only be able to use a meager shield.
Naofumi is mocked by the other heroes and the citizens of Melromarc because he lacks the offensive abilities associated with heroes. Each hero is given resources and a group of companions, but Naofumi only has Myne Sophia with her.
Things with Myne appear to be going well until she betrays him and accuses him of exploiting her. Naofumi is forced to travel alone, with a terrible reputation following him wherever he goes, after the entire kingdom turns its back on him. Despite his predicament, Naofumi remains a hero who fights the Waves to protect the Kingdom of Melromarc.
Other countries in this fantasy world have their own set of heroes, just as Melromarc summoned them from various alternate versions of Japan.
That’s where L’arc comes in, as the Scythe Hero, wielding the Vassal Scythe as his weapon. He’s an incredibly powerful ally, but he’s also a very difficult foe to deal with.
He befriends Naofumi for a short time because he never believed Naofumi was the fabled Shield Hero… or Devil.
3. Hiiragi Shinoa – Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End)
Everyone over the age of 13 is killed by a mysterious virus. Following that, mankind is enslaved by a vampire race that had remained hidden up until that point.
They control and “protect” what remains of human society in exchange for blood. Hyakuya Yuuichirou and Mikaela are taken from their orphanage with other children and treated as livestock.
The children plot an escape because they are unhappy with their situation; however, they are quickly apprehended and slaughtered, with Yuuichirou being the sole survivor.
He manages to flee and is apprehended by the Moon Demon Company, a Japanese sect dedicated to the abolition of vampires.
Years later, Yuuichirou vows to exact vengeance on the beings who murdered his family and friends, but vengeance in a ruined world isn’t easy to come by.
Shinoa is a sarcastic teenage girl who wields an incredible weapon and is one of the Moon Demon Company’s sergeants and squad leaders.
Shikama Douji is her Demon Weapon, a scythe that she can condense into the shape of a pen. She has the ability to summon the demon that resides within her weapon to attack her foes, and she has the ability to detect anything that enters the attack radius of her scythe.
2. Celty Sturluson – Durarara!!
Strange occurrences, rumors, and even anonymous gangs and shady characters abound in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district, but the legend of the headless “Black Rider,” who can be seen cruising the streets on a jet-black motorcycle, stands out above the rest.
Ryuugamine Mikado has always wanted to live in the city, and Kida Masaomi, a childhood friend, persuades him to relocate to Tokyo. Mikado sees the Black Rider on his first day, setting off the first of several supernatural events in Ikebukuro.
Ikebukuro’s Headless Rider is a fictional character. Celty is one of the most intriguing characters on the list for a variety of reasons. Let’s start with the fact that she’s a type of Irish faerie, specifically a Dullahan.
Celty is one of the more ordinary characters in the Durarara cast, despite her otherworldly appearance. Her clothes, bike, and pretty much every other part of her body appear to be made of a shadow-like substance that connects them all.
Celty sometimes turns this substance into a black scythe, which is appropriate given that scythes are beheading tools and Celty… well, Celty is looking for her own head. Quite literally.
1. Dark Rukia – BLEACH Movie 3: Fade to Black
In Soul Society, a strange duo appears and attacks Kuchiki Rukia. Rukia’s memories fade, but Ichigo is reminded of her when Kon inquires about her.
He decides to visit the Seireitei, only to discover that everyone in Soul Society has forgotten who Ichigo is. Ichigo and Kon are forced to engage in combat with their Soul Society friends in order to figure out what’s going on and restore everyone’s memories to normalcy, but will it be easy?
After being forcibly merged with Homura and Shizuku, Rukia loses her memories, and her physical form changes. Her hair and eyes turn lavender, her kimono turns white and tattered, and her fighting ability improves dramatically.
Rukia’s current appearance corresponds to Tite Kubo’s original vision of Rukia, which depicts her wielding a large scythe.
This malicious, Hollowfied Rukia is a treat for Rukia and BLEACH fans alike; however, there is something oddly heartwarming about seeing character concepts that were once scrapped come to life in other ways.
