Anime fans frequently make jokes about protagonists using “plot armor” to defeat incredibly powerful foes. It’s something we’ve all seen and talked about incessantly. Today, however, we’ll talk about actual armor. Armor comes in a variety of forms, including suits of armor, cloth body suits, condensed energy, and so on.
It was difficult to narrow down a top ten list with so many options. However, it’s a list that you don’t see many other people attempting, which is surprising. To begin, let me state that you will not see multiple selections from the same anime (sorry Erza fanatics).
These choices should pique your interest in this category and inspire you to come up with your own top ten armor. The choices were made with consideration for abilities, popularity, and appeal. They were then ranked in order of strength. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 Anime Armor nominees.
10. Gantz Suit
Gantz is the name of a mysterious black orb that can be found in the middle of a Tokyo apartment room. There are a variety of handguns, suits, and other weapons on the inside. Without giving too much away, the black orb dispatches various individuals on missions to eliminate aliens attacking Tokyo. Gantz has chosen these individuals to carry out its missions.
The bodysuits are particularly important because they offer a wide range of defensive and offensive capabilities to their wearer. They are made to fit the user’s body perfectly. The suit is skin-tight, black, and has numerous “caps” placed along its surface. It covers the user from the neck to the feet.
The suit’s power is derived from these caps. It gives the user a significant increase in physical strength. In fact, they can lift more than fifty times their own body weight. They also gain increased speed, stamina, and the ability to leap extremely high and land damage-free. It defends them against common attacks like physical blows, sword stabs, and bullets. However, it does not protect against weapons such as lasers or some acidic chemicals. The suit’s caps, on the other hand, burst open and release the black substance that powers it if it sustains too much damage or if the user is under a lot of emotional stress. It then serves the same purpose as regular clothing.
9. Al’s Armor (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Alfonse (“Al”) is a character in the film Alfonse (“Al”) Elric is a 14-year-old boy who has been taught the ways of alchemy since he was a child. He is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, possesses a genius level intellect, and has the ability to transmute matter without the use of a transmutation circle. His most startling feature, however, is that he no longer has a human body. Instead, his soul is enslaved to a body made of gunmetal-colored steel armor. After a failed Human Transmutation, he and his brother suffered severe physical injuries. Edward lost an arm and a leg, while Al was stripped of his entire physical being. Edward was only able to attach Al’s soul to the plate of armor thanks to a desperate last-minute maneuver.
Fortunately, Al still has access to his alchemic abilities and can use the suit of armor to improve his fighting abilities. His strength and endurance have obviously increased beyond human levels. He, on the other hand, never has to eat, sleep, or even breathe. He may appear to be unstoppable. But there is one thing that keeps everything he can do in check: the Blood Seal. This is a unique symbol drawn in blood on the inside of the armor. The soul bound to the object is lost forever if this seal is broken or erased. It returns to The Alchemical Gate.
8. Gowther’s Armor (Nanatsu no Taizai)
Gowther, also known as the Goat’s Sin of Lust, is a powerful wizard and a Nanatsu no Taizai member (Seven Deadly Sins). None of Gowther’s allies had ever seen him physically before the band of knights became fugitives. He was always clad in a colossal suit of armor. When the knights reunite ten years later, there is some confusion as a result of this.
The horned helm on the completely silver body armor has one of its horns broken off. There are also massive spiked shoulder plates on it. Despite its size in comparison to other knights’ armor, the suit is unique for other reasons.
For starters, it was created by Merlin and given to Gowther specifically. Second, it has the ability to restrain the wearer’s power. As a result, while its size and weight make the user physically stronger, it also prevents their powers from becoming out of control. When Gowther put the armor on a Dale after he had been mutated into a hybrid demon, this was most obvious. This reincarnation of Dale was so powerful that Gowther had no choice but to use the magical armor to help him subdue it. It took ten years for King, Gowther, Ban, and Meliodas to unite and defeat the demon abomination. It’s possible that the armor has additional magical properties, but the anime has only shown this so far.
7. Golden Armor (Fate/stay night)
The greatest king in the history of the world wears the Golden Armor. Gilgamesh was a half-god, half-human king who ruled Sumeria, Mesopotamia’s capital city in B.C. He is the most powerful human ever to walk the earth, and he is the basis for all hero stories and myths. In fact, he is known as the King of Heroes. He possesses every Noble Phantasm in existence because he predates all other heroes. I don’t know what is broken if that isn’t it!
Gilgamesh is frequently seen in his signature Golden Armor. Gilgamesh’s armor, like everything else about him, is on a completely different level than anything else. It has built-in magical resistance, allowing it to withstand A-rank spells cast by powerful mages. It also has enough physical toughness to withstand the incredible Tsubame Gaeshi technique.
This is a sword technique that defies physics to create a slash that travels in three different directions at the same time. It is said that the power and skill required to use the Tsubame Gaeshi “surpasses even the Servants.” Gilgamesh, on the other hand, didn’t seem to get the memo because his armor easily blocks the slashes. Shirou Emiya initially mistook the Golden Armor for Gilgamesh’s personal Noble Phantasm because it is so impressive.
Of course, Gilgamesh does not require the Golden Armor in order to fight the other Servants. His physical strength is comparable to that of a Berserker, and he already has all of the Noble Phantasms. He has a title other than “King of Heroes,” which is “Servant Killer.” He can use all of the Servants’ flaws against them, including the Noble Phantasm that killed one of them in their previous life. To anyone who dares to challenge him, his Golden Armor is more of a taunt or a slap in the face. It’s the cherry on top of his already impressive arsenal of abilities and weapons.
6. Nakagami Armor (Fairy Tail)
The Nakagami Armor is one of Fairy Tale’s most potent defensive and offensive weapons. This suit of armor is so powerful that no one has been able to summon it in over ten years. It is accompanied by a large halberd capable of devastating physical and magical attacks.
During one of Erza’s fights against Minerva Orland, she was able to “Second Origin release” and equip this armor. When it was discovered that the Nakagami puts tremendous strain on and drains the Magical Power of anyone who uses it, everyone was shocked, especially Minerva.
The two ladies had been dueling for quite some time, so Erza’s ability to pull out this trump card was astounding. She stated that she would not rest until she had exacted vengeance on her guild and friends. She sliced through Minerva’s spell with the Nakagami’s signature attack, Nakagami Starlight, which has the ability to dispel any type of magic.
Some Fairy Tail fans believe Erza’s Armadura Armor is her most powerful. That’s because her Edolas counterpart, Erza Knightwalker, declared the Armadura to be the most powerful. That statement, however, might be based on her own abilities and knowledge.
So far, Erza Scarlet has used the Nakagami Armor to defeat a stronger opponent in a single blow. As the story progresses, she’ll most likely show off even more powerful armor and abilities. However, this is the most powerful one we’ve seen so far.
5. Incursio (Akame ga Kill)
The Danger Beast Tyrant gave birth to the Demon Armor: Incursio. Tyrant was a nomadic beast who devoured any foe it encountered, according to legend. It was feared by many because of its ability to adapt its body to any situation.
As a result, it is able to evolve throughout all of its battles as a Teigu. It even adapts to the fighting style and abilities of its user. It takes on the appearance of an elaborate short-sword with a chain link tassel when it is dormant.
In its current form, this full-body Armor-type Teigu provides incredible defensive protection while also enhancing agility, strength, and speed for the user, Tatsumi in this case.
Tatsumi’s willpower and training enable him to bond with Incursio at a breakneck speed. When he first puts on the armor, it looks a little like it did when it was worn by Bulat (its previous user). However, as Tatsumi gains proficiency with the armor, it becomes more streamlined and aerodynamic in order to accommodate Tatsumi’s agile fighting style.
Tatsumi has pushed Incursio to its breaking point, resulting in the creation of a new form. The armor takes on a more reptilian appearance in its evolved form, with claws on the hands and feet, a larger Neuntote Spear, and increased resistance to magical attacks.
4. White Armor of Inferno (Ronin Warriors)
A lone warrior (The Ancient One) defeated Talpa (Emperor of the Evil Dynasty) and sealed away his evil spirit a thousand years ago. The Ancient One, however, separated Talpa’s armor into nine separate suits of armor in order to prevent his return. The four seasons were represented by four of them. The elements were covered by the other five. The White Armor of Inferno is a unique suit that draws its power from the Ronin Warriors’ five elemental armors.
Ryo Sanada, the leader of the Ronin Warriors, is the wearer of this legendary armor. He has a special affinity for the Wildfire armor, which he employs to great effect against Talpa and his evil dynasty. The Swords of Wildfire, twin katanas, are his primary weapons.
He can, however, summon and don the White Armor of Inferno by combining the energy of his four comrades. His power is too much for the wildfire swords to handle at that point. He eventually acquires The Swords of Fervor, which are new weapons. He uses them to unleash “Sen Ko Zan,” or “Rage of Inferno,” his ultimate attack. The signature attack of his Wildfire armor, but much more powerful in this form, unleashed a visible stream of white-hot fire.
The White Armor of Inferno, according to legend, is capable of destroying the entire world. Ryo demonstrates its power by channeling its energy against the evil ruler. Talpa has admitted that one suit of armor is extremely powerful. He put an end to all attempts to retrieve the other armors and concentrated solely on the Inferno. It’s easy to see why it made this list with so much power.
3. Proud Fist (S-CRY-ed)
Kazuma Torisuna is an Alter user whose Shell Bullet takes the form of an armored gauntlet with orange, red, and gray plating that covers his right arm. It provides some protection, but its primary function is to generate “Alter” energy, which is then released to propel Kazuma forward at incredible speeds and exponentially increase the power of his strikes. As the strength of this Shell Bullet grows, it takes on a variety of forms before settling on its final form: Proud Fist.
The Proud Fist is a full-body suit with the same orange, red, and gray plating that had previously only encased his arm. For added protection, it also creates a mask over his face.
He also gets new armor, including a tail-like propeller that allows him to move faster, more agilely, and with more force during all of his attacks. Only his arch-rival Ryuhou Ryu can match his abilities in this form (who becomes an S-CRY-ed as well). He gains access to two abilities: the Dimensional BFR and the Giant Explosion Fist, in addition to a massive increase in strength and speed.
Kazuma can punch a hole in the fabric of space and create a rift that leads to the “Alter” dimension using dimensional BFR. He uses it to throw enemies inside and keep them trapped there indefinitely. Only other Alter users who have reached the same level of strength as him can escape.
All of his punches get a boost in raw power with Giant Explosion Fist. However, the boost is so significant that he is able to convert their energy into a beam. When he does this, his strike range expands to almost unbelievable proportions. His punches have the ability to break through Earth’s orbit and cover large areas of the planet’s surface. His attacks can be seen from the farthest reaches of the universe!
2. Susanoo (Naruto)
This ability can only be activated by shinobi who have access to the Mangekyo Sharingan. Susanoo is a gigantic humanoid being made entirely of chakra. It forms around the user and is becomes an extension of them.
It’s very unique in its defensive capabilities because it can selectively defend against various attacks. What that means is that Susanoo can deflect physical attacks, it can allow them to pass through without hindrance, or it can be brought within Susanoo itself. Not only that, the user can use Susanoo to attack opponents as well. His giant sword and shield are capable of incredible destruction.
Susanoo undergoes several versions as its user learns to fully control this ability. It can start off as a simple extension of the arm to increase striking capability. Or it can be a simple skeletal structure capable of protecting the shinobi.
Once the user has mastered this technique they add on more layers to Suasanoo’s body and eventually reach the Complete Body Susanoo. This is when it takes on its colossal-like appearance and looks like an ancient Tengu figure.
Its most prominent usage was when Uchiha Sasuke used the Complete Susanoo to envelop Kurama (the Nine-Tailed Beast) and greatly enhance its defensive and offensive capabilities.
1. Athena Cloth (Saint Seiya)
The strongest armor on this list belongs to the pantheon God Athena. The Athena Cloth is just like what it sounds: cloth worn by Athena during her various battles with other Gods and during the Holy Wars.
This particular cloth falls under the Kamui or God cloth category. Clothes are armor types worn by the Saints of Athena. The three main categories are Bronze, Silver, and Gold. There are several other clothes of unknown material that have not been shown and cannot be categorized. Then, there is the Kamui.
The only one shown so far has been Athena’s. It’s likely that each member of the Olympian Pantheon has their own Kamui, though it may not necessarily be called a “cloth”. For example, Hades has his personal “God Surplice” and Poseidon uses his “God Scales”. The comparison between these types of items is unclear. Though, it would make sense that whatever kind of Kamui Zeus possesses should be the most powerful.
Athena’s Cloth has been shown to sustain almost an endless amount of damage. The only time it was actually heavily damaged was from a full-attack from Abzu, the creator of the Universe. Even, Hades was not able to put a dent in her cloth and he actually fears it. He has made several attempts to render the cloth unusable in his battles against his niece, Athena.
While wearing the Cloth, Athena is able to use her Cosmo to its full potential. Though possibly not on par with the Big Will, or divine Cosmos, of a higher God, such as Hades or Poseidon, her abilities are still way above even that of a Saint with 8th Sense. Her Kamui provided her with enough defense to sustain attacks from Hades and ultimately turn the tide in her favor in her multiple wars against him.
