‘The White Lotus’ Season 1 Reviews

The White Lotus’ first season received mixed reviews from critics. “A fantastic trick of light that bends its interconnected narrative with the kind of amazing skill we’ve come to anticipate from White,” critic Caroline Framke wrote in a Variety review. By the time you get used to the rhythms of this show, it’s already morphed into something completely different.”

On the other side, EW’s Darren Franich reports that White, the show’s creator, is a firm believer in stupid people having profound epiphanies, which means his least likable characters have the potential to break your heart.

“On The White Lotus, though, epiphanies aren’t going to save the day. Every individual is an island, and the tide is rising “He wrote this while giving the series a B+.

Series Creater White’s Thoughts on Season 2

Before the renewal, series creator, writer, and director White told Entertainment Weekly that bringing another season of the show means starting from scratch and going through the same process again. He said he wanted to do it because he thought it would be a good approach to explore some new ideas “in a way that feels different from this one.”

When challenged about the decision to change the actors and location, White explained that filming an entire season in Maui, Hawaii, would now be prohibitively expensive. He added that because of the low rates in the pandemic, the first season could be filmed there.

“So it’d have to be something like The White Lotus: Kyoto. Which would be entertaining as well, because we could discuss cultural clashes and other such topics. So I’d absolutely do that, and I’m waiting to hear back from them “he exclaimed, ecstatically.
