Simmons sued the National Enquirer, Radar Online, and American Media, Inc. in May 2017 after they published articles stating he was a transgender man between June 2016 and March 2017.

The National Enquirer and Radar Online were sued for “cheaply and crassly commercializing and sensationalizing a problem that ought to be dealt with respect and compassion,” according to the lawsuit. The outlets were also accused of publishing the stories with “calculated malice,” according to the lawsuit.

Richards was the subject of an article in The National Enquirer in June 2016 titled “Richard Simmons: He’s Now a Woman.” Richard Simmons’ defamation claim against the National Enquirer was dismissed. A judge has ruled that disclosing someone as transgender is not harmful.

However, the court ruled against Simmons, and his defamation claim against the periodicals was rejected. According to court filings, he was also ordered to pay roughly $130,000 in attorneys’ fees to the media outlets and their publisher, American Media.

His sexual orientation is still a mystery

Despite the fact that he has been accused of being gay, Simmons has never publicly verified his sexuality. It is inappropriate to make assumptions about someone’s sexual orientation or to pass judgment on their life choices. The best thing we can do is respect their privacy until they choose to reveal themselves.

Simmons was born and raised in New Orleans. Shirley May and Leonard Douglas Simmons gave birth to Simmons on July 12, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lenny Simmons, his older brother, is also a musician.

The fitness instructor graduated from Cor Jesu High School and went on to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned a BA in Art from Florida State University.
