Early Life
Paul Reubens was born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York, on August 27, 1952. Judy Reubens, his mother, was an elementary school teacher, and Milton Reubens, his father, was a civilian pilot for the US Air Force and the Royal Air Force. They moved to Sarasota, Florida, and started a lamp business.
The 64-year-old attended Sarasota High School in Florida. He went on to Boston University and the California Institute of the Arts after that.
Reubens’ younger brother Luke Rubenfeld works as a dog trainer, while his younger sister Abby Rubenfeld works as an attorney. She is also the legal director of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, a nationwide gay and lesbian civil-rights group.
Multiple Arrests
Reubens isn’t afraid of the law. He’s been arrested a number of times.
He had his first run-in with the law when he was 18 years old. He was detained on suspicion of marijuana possession. He was apprehended in front of an adult bookstore in 1983 for reportedly “loitering and prowling.” The incident had little impact because the charges were ultimately withdrawn.
In 1991, Paul’s career had a major setback. During a raid by the detectives, he was caught at the South Trail Cinema, an adult theater in Florida. He was released from the county prison after paying a $219 bond for indecent exposure to a genital organ. In 2002, after 11 years, he was arrested for a petty offence. Police discovered child pornography-related materials in his home.
Relationship Status
Buffy the Vampire Slayer In 1989, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress married Chandi Heffner, the late American heiress and Doris Duke’s adopted daughter. The two had met on a trip to Hawaii. Reubens stated in an interview with Vanity Fair that they married in an unplanned “mock wedding ceremony” during dinner.
Following the divorce, Reubens began dating TV personality Debi Mazar in 1993. She assisted him in re-entering the industry following his arrests. They were together for almost two years before parting ways amicably.
Reubens hasn’t been linked to anyone since then. He has also been secretive about his relationship status, fueling homosexuality speculations. However, the actor from The Blacklist has remained silent on the subject.
