Career
Nix was a high school football player at Etowah High School in Attalla, Alabama. After that, he went on to play quarterback for Auburn University’s Tigers. He filled in for an injured Stan White against Alabama during his sophomore season in 1993, helping the Tigers to an 11–0 record. Nix was the school’s career passing efficiency leader when he graduated in 1995. Nix played for current Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, as well as Auburn head coach Terry Bowden, offensive coordinator Tommy Bowden, and quarterbacks coach Jimbo Fisher. Nix holds the Auburn passing record for most pass completions in a game with 34 against Arkansas.
In 2002, Nix joined the Georgia Tech coaching staff. Nix was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator during his first year at Tech. In 2003, he served as the quarterbacks coach and running game coordinator. In 2004, he was promoted to offensive coordinator while also coaching quarterbacks. The ACC’s top rusher (Tashard Choice) and leading receiver (Nix) were both parts of Nix’s offense (Calvin Johnson). Before the 2006 season, Nix took over as the team’s full-time play-caller.
