Personality

Nezuko’s original human personality was that of a kind and caring girl who, like her older brother Tanjiro, put others before herself. She was also a responsible older sister to her younger siblings, frequently prioritizing their needs over her own.

Even after being returned to a human state, Nezuko is not afraid to put herself in harm’s way, protecting her friends from Demons. Following Tanjiro’s apology, Nezuko’s humane, laid-back demeanor is shown to support this fact.

However, as a Demon, Nezuko appears to have forgotten a large portion of her human memories, aside from those relating to her family and thus does not retain the same personality she had prior to transformation. Although this is largely due to Sakonji Urokodaki’s influence on her while she was asleep for two years, she is still very caring and protective of humans she considers to be members of her family.

Nezuko retains some of her human emotions, as she has been observed crying when sad and smiling when happy, but she appears more detached than her human counterparts, despite being calmer and less malicious than most Demons.

Power and Abilities

Enhanced Strength: Despite never having been formally trained, Nezuko’s naturally enhanced physical strength allows her to easily fight demons; however, due to her lack of training, Nezuko instead relies on kicking or overwhelming her opponents with brute strength.

Her kicks allow her to easily sever a Demon’s head or kick down a door. Her strength is incredible for a Demon who has never eaten a human, and she can even match the strength of an Upper Rank Demon.

Power Restoration: Nezuko’s most distinguishing feature as a demon is her ability to constantly restore her power without consuming any

human life, as most demons do. Instead, she regains her strength by sleeping for long periods of time inside her prepared box.

Demonic Transformation: When Nezuko is in a dangerous situation, she can go berserk, with demon crests that resemble vine tattoos circling her body, veins protruding, and a single horn protruding from her right forehead side. This form improves Nezuko’s fighting abilities at the expense of making her more demon-like, which includes the need to feed on human blood.

So far, the only way she’s been able to return to normal is for someone to sing her a lullaby (in her case, Tanjiro). Nezuko manages to control this form at will during the Demon Slayer’s fight against Hantengu.

Pyrokinesis: Nezuko’s main ability is to control pinkish demonic flames created from her blood, which deal significant damage to demons but are completely harmless to humans. Her flames are so strong that they could seriously harm Upper Rank 4, Hantengu. Her flames have also been shown to be capable of turning a Nichirin Blade crimson red.

Size Manipulation: Nezuko demonstrated the basic ability to change and alter her body’s size and height after being transformed into a Demon. She could shrink herself to the size of a small child in order to fit inside a small box or a basket in order to hide from the sun while traveling with Tanjiro during the day, and she could enlarge herself into a much larger form in order to battle Demons.

Immense Regeneration: Nezuko has a powerful regeneration ability that allows her to regenerate severed limbs in a matter of seconds. The true nature of this power is that it allows her to solidify her blood from severed body parts that she can manipulate at will. During her fight with Daki, she demonstrated her regeneration ability by regenerating her severed limbs with the speed and precision of an Upper Rank.

Fighting Style

Nezuko has the ability to ignite her blood, turning it into engulfing flames. She has the ability to control the lethality or non-lethality of her flames at will. Nezuko is seen using her blood to treat the wounds of others as needed. These flames, on the other hand, affect only Demons and Blood Demon Arts, such as Rui’s threads or Gyutaro’s poison.

Nezuko’s flames can also turn Tanjiro’s Nichirin Blade from Jet Black to Crimson Red, similar to how Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s blade turns from black to red before a fight, enhancing his blade’s effectiveness against Demons even more and allowing Tanjiro to perform the Hinokami Kagura forms more effectively.

Appearance

Nezuko is a small, fair-skinned young woman with large, prominent fangs and sharp, claw-like nails that fade to red where they point. Her hair is long, black, and reaches just below her waist, turning a fiery orange color as it passes her elbows. It is crimped into large, straight ridges, and she wears it side-swept to her left.

Her pale pink eyes are slanted downwards towards the sides of her face and framed by notably long eyelashes, the pupils of which can appear slit as she transforms. Nezuko was a great beauty in their hometown, according to Tanjiro Kamado.

She’s dressed in a light pink kimono with a hemp leaf pattern, a paler pink lining, and a red and white checkered hanhaba obi with an orange threaded obi above it. She wears a long, dark brown haori that reaches past her knees and down her calves, as well as a pair of pink-strapped zri and white tabi socks wrapped in thick black material.

Nezuko also has a small pink ribbon around her left ear to keep her hair out of her face, as well as the bamboo gag Giyu Tomioka gave her, which is wrapped around her jaw with a strip of red cloth.
