Morena Baccarin, who is currently married to Ben McKenzie, has been married twice before.
The award-winning actress was previously married to Austin Chick, a film producer and director. Morena Baccarin married him in November 2011, separated in July 2015, and divorced him in March 2016.
Despite having a son, Julius Chick, born in October 2013, they divorced citing irreconcilable differences.
Interestingly, she had begun seeing her current husband, McKenzie, with whom she now has two children, before the divorce was finalized.
The Beginnings of Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie
Baccarin and McKenzie began dating after meeting while co-starring in the Fox series Gotham together.
The actress played Leslie “Lee” Thompkins in the crime drama television series, while McKenzie, a well-known actor, played the lead character James Gordon.
After being notoriously private about their relationship in the past, the two finally confirmed it in September 2015.
They also revealed at the time that she was pregnant with their child and that they intended to marry after her divorce was finalized.
Frances, the couple’s first child, was born in March 2016.
Morena Baccarin’s Birthday Secret Wedding
Baccarin and McKenzie married in an intimate ceremony at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn, New York, after dating for over two years.
And it appears that the two exchanged wedding vows on a very special day — Baccarin’s birthday — on June 2, 2017.
During an appearance on Harry in September 2017, the actor revealed that the couple didn’t intend to marry on her birthday, but it just happened.
“We wanted to get married at the beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. When we tried to book it, which was more than a year in advance, the only date available was my wife’s birthday “He elaborated.
He also remembered his wife giving him one rule to follow after they chose that date for their wedding.
McKenzie stated: “She just wants me to be clear that she will receive a birthday gift and an anniversary gift over the course of a week. She is Brazilian, and birthdays are very important to her.”
According to reports, the ceremony was attended by close friends and family members.
The couple wanted the wedding to be so private that McKenzie’s former co-star and close friend Logan Marshall-Green posted an Instagram photo with the groom without revealing the location.
The Family Life of the Couple Now
The couple is currently raising three children together.
The three children are Julius, the eldest, whom the actress also co-parents with her first husband, Baccarin, Frances, McKenzie’s first child, and Arthur, the youngest member of the family.
The couple’s second child was born in March 2021, and they both announced the news on Instagram. They both shared a photo of their newborn son lying on his side, hands covering his face.
