Brooks spoke with Freeman about his memoir and his writing experience during the pandemic.
He first revealed that it was his son Max, author of The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, who suggested he use his spare time to write down all of his life’s stories.
“When I look back at people like Gene, who I loved and miss so much, and my adventures with Carl — you met him, you saw what a sweetheart of a guy he was, my best friend — and, of course, my wife, who was my great love and support, it was hard to keep going at times,” he admitted, admitting that writing about his past was painful at times.
Brooks also told AP News at the time that he always identified as a writer in addition to being an actor, filmmaker, and producer.
According to him, writing was the most interesting thing he ever did, and he believed that being a good reader helped him become a good writer as well.

Brooks is 95 years old as of this writing. He was born in Brooklyn, New York City, on June 28, 1926.
He lost his father, who was Jewish from Gda„sk, Poland, when he was only two years old, to kidney disease.
