Laraine Newman is best known as a founding member of the Saturday Night Live cast.
During her time on the show, Laraine Newman shared the screen with Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Gilda Radner.
She worked for the comedy institution for five seasons before leaving in 1980.
Laraine had wowed both audiences and critics, and her career was flourishing.
But the comedian wasn’t content, as she revealed in her audiobook memoir, May You Live in Interesting Times.
And she resorted to the only solution, or rather, a struggle she had been dealing with since her adolescence: alcohol and substance abuse.
The actress eventually overcame it, and in the process, she met her ex-husband, Chad Einbinder.
Laraine and Chad married in 1991 after meeting at an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting.
The couple welcomed their first child, Lena N. Einbinder, also known as Spike Einbinder, in August of that year.
Hannah Einbinder was born four years later, in 1995, to Newman and her husband.
Laraine Newman’s Daughter Is Making a Name for Herself
Both daughters have followed in their parents’ footsteps, indicating that comedy runs in the family.
Spike and Hannah are aspiring comedians who inherited their father’s sense of humour.
However, in the last year, the younger daughter has made a name for herself.
Hannah was cast in 2021 in HBO’s award-winning comedy-drama Hacks.
She plays Ava Daniels, a spoiled millennial whose comedy career is derailed by a bad tweet.
With nowhere to go and nothing to do, she is tasked with writing new material for Jean Smart’s older Las Vegas stand-up.
The two comics end up disagreeing and learning a lot from each other.
Hannah was praised by Entertainment Weekly, who called her “immensely appealing.”
Laraine, on the other hand, believed her child was born a comedian because she was always amusing.
“At the age of seven, she was at a Mexican restaurant. ‘Get ready,’ she said, raising a cheese and bean burrito and looking at her buttocks. That’s good, I thought,” the veteran comedian told The New York Times.
The SNL alum also revealed that her daughter could imitate voices but never used them.
Laraine Newman’s Daughter Achieved Success on Her Own
People naturally assume Hannah took advantage of her celebrity as the daughter of a comedian icon.
However, in 2021, the actress told People that she had never benefited from nepotism.
After deciding to pursue a career in comedy, the actress had to learn a lot on her own.
“There is no other option. “I started doing open mics right after college, and no one can prepare you for that,” the Hacks star explained.
Hannah finished her job at a coffee shop and went all over town every weeknight to perform at open mics.
She explained that she was successful on some days and failed on others.
The comedian went on to say that no one could help her, so she had no choice but to keep going.
Fortunately, she was obsessed and addicted to comedy, so she persisted.
