As it turns out, the song is inspired by a true historical event. Pumpkin is the nickname given to Lauryn Mychelle Shannon, a reality television personality.
According to family history, Lauryn was playing video games on her home’s gaming system when lightning struck her house, striking her at the age of seven. Pumpkin was “electrocuted” as a result of the incident, which inspired the song of the same name.
