Kevin Kline’s Early Years
Kevin was a 1965 alumnus of the Saint Louis Priory School. His school then named its new auditorium after him, the Kevin Kline Theatre. After graduating from high school, he went to Indiana University in Bloomington.
He went on to study composition and conducting music after graduation. He altered his major to theatre and speech in his final two years and graduated in 1970.

Kline has always been fascinated with acting and has performed in a variety of theaters since he was a child, earning him a scholarship to the Juilliard School’s newly founded Drama Division in 1970.
The troupe went on tour throughout the United States, performing Shakespeare’s plays as well as other classical works and a musical. He then went to Juilliard to study singing with Beverley Peck Johnson.
He left “The Acting Company” later that year, in 1976, and traveled to New York to pursue his acting career outside of the theatre. Then he appeared as Woody Reed in the now-defunct soap opera “Search for Tomorrow” for a limited time.
