Kawaki Bio, Voice Actor, Ninjutsu, Personality

Who is Kawaki?

Kawaki is a child raised by Kara to be Isshiki Otsutsuki’s future vessel and the key to granting their greatest wish. After being brought to Konohagakure by Team 7, Naruto Uzumaki adopts him and raises him as his own, during which time he forms a brotherly bond with Boruto Uzumaki in order to solve the mystery of the Kama.

Background

In the anime, Kawaki worked as a woodcutter to help his abusive drunken father Kokatsu buy alcohol. After Kawaki expressed an interest in the goldfish, a goldfish merchant invited him to a goldfish show the following day. His father later discovered the invitation in his pocket and forbade Kawaki from eating dinner because he had interacted with strangers. Kawaki was beaten by two boys the next day until he was rescued by a goldfish merchant who offered him a job helping him sell goldfish in other villages.

After noticing a crack in his father’s alcohol glass, Kawaki dashed home. Kokatsu locked Kawaki in a room with nothing but broken glass.

Jigen arrived shortly after, offering to buy him for a large sum of money. Kawaki promised his father that he could do more work to earn money if he didn’t have to leave his house, but he was knocked out when Kokatsu smashed an empty bottle on his head. W

hen Jigen took custody of Kawaki, he told him that his ordeal was over and that he had nothing to fear now that he was his new father. As Kawaki and Jigen walked out of the village through the only tunnel, the previously friendly merchant revealed himself to be a child trafficker hoping to kidnap Kawaki. Jigen emerged from the tunnel after Kawaki had waited outside for the two to decide who would take the boy. He claimed the man had “gladly withdrawn.”

When Jigen first arrived in Kara, he took Kawaki to Amado’s laboratory, promising him a gift once they had truly become parent and child. Kawaki was one of fifteen Otsutsuki vessel candidates who were placed in artificial wombs connected by tubes to jars of fluid in order for Jigen to transfer his Kma to them as part of a ritual. Jigen succeeded with Kawaki, one of his last attempts, after the first thirteen children all died.

Kawaki awoke later with a Kma tattooed on his left hand. Despite Jigen’s assurances of safety, Kawaki later described his subsequent life as a living hell.

A terrified Kawaki tried to flee the Kara hideout in the anime, but she ran into Garo, another survivor of Jigen’s vessel experiments. Garo was taken aback by the fact that, unlike him, Kawaki appeared to be unharmed.

Gar tried to persuade him to accompany him, claiming that he could teach him a few things, but Kawaki wanted to leave and inquired as to where the exit was. Garo became enraged and began strangling the boy, who activated his Kama in self-defense and blasted Garo in the face, severely burning his head and destroying his chin, for which he claims to have apologized.

He’d be put through arduous training on a regular basis, all in the hopes of mastering the Kma and becoming the ideal vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki, as Jigen desired. Throughout it, he would constantly chastise Kawaki, accusing him of being nothing more than a vessel for the Kama, and striking the boy whenever he questioned him. Kawaki’s body was eventually altered significantly as well.

Appearance

Kawaki is a young man with grey eyes and bushy black hair that is shaved and blond on the sides. Despite his gruff demeanor, he is quite attractive, as Ino has pointed out. He also has a Roman numeral IX tattoo beneath his left eye, a pair of piercings on his right eyebrow, and stud earrings.

Kawaki is dressed in a green shirt and dark pants with a studded belt, as well as a blue sleeveless vest jacket with grey stripe patterns on the collar. He had a diamond-shaped Kma on the palm of his left hand, which spread across the left half of his face, chest, and arm when activated, glowing red.

Kawaki lost his right forearm during the battle between Naruto and Delta. Naruto’s chakra was used to power an advanced prosthetic that replaced it. Amado was able to restore Kawaki’s full anatomy after defeating Isshiki, using a replacement arm cultivated from Kawaki’s own cells.

Kawaki is seen wearing a violet infinity scarf and belt, white overalls with his chest exposed, and a black vest trench coat later in his life.

Personality

Kawaki’s aggressive and vulgar behavior toward people he dislikes or opposes stems from his difficult childhood. He was not completely heartless, however, despite his efforts to distance himself from others. He showed compassion for weak and injured animals and refused to let children suffer.

When questioning strangers, he can also remain calm and collected, as when Kawaki listened to Konohamaru Sarutobi’s explanation about himself and his team. When he isn’t losing his cool, Kawaki is shown to be a very observant and problematic character, easily reading the flow of the battle in front of him and deciding how to react.

Because of the immense suffering he has endured as a vessel of the Kara, which he has described as a living hell, he would rather die than spend the rest of his life in that hell. He’s even shown signs of post-traumatic stress disorder, as seeing dripping roots of plants reminds him of his struggles and causes him to pant in terror.

He appears to despise himself for what he has become during his time with Kara, stating that he would learn the Shadow Clone Technique just to beat himself up and vent his frustrations.

Kawaki is enraged by Kara and becomes hyper-alert and aggressive when confronted by other members of the group. He resents Jigen in particular for what he perceives as a breach of his safety promises, as evidenced by his rage while unconscious when reminded of Jigen’s adoption of him, and later when he expressed clear resentment while describing Jigen’s experiment.

Kawaki

While he appears to be confident in his ability to defeat the Outers, he knows better than to believe that he could possibly defeat any of the Inners, knowing of their monstrous might, and has shown fear of them, sweating in the presence of Delta and expressing brief but great surprise that Naruto could be more powerful than even Jigen, who he knew full well was the most powerful of the Outers.

Even though he despised Jigen and believed that he was safe with Naruto protecting him, Kawaki was terrified of him.

Jigen’s arrival through the Kma he forced on Kawaki caused him genuine horror and fear, not just for himself but for Naruto, and after seeing Naruto struggling against the far weaker Delta and then being easily overtaken by his adopted father, when Jigen attacked Kono, Kawaki was terrified of him.

This fear, at least after his change as a result of his time in Konoha, is not to the point where he would surrender without a fight, as he attempted to attack Jigen despite knowing how futile it would be to fight his adopted father, who he had always lost to in their spars, and despite being easily restrained, he did not bother to defend himself.

His hatred for Jigen (and later Isshiki) was so strong that he openly reveled in the prospect of Isshiki’s death, even stepping on his crumbling remains while insulting him. He despised the rest of the tsutsuki clan after being used by Isshiki, and he expressed his hatred for Momoshiki’s similar mindset. Kawaki’s hatred for Kara led him to be unkind to his fellow Vessel experiment, Code, suggesting that Boruto make Code his vessel in order to keep Momoshiki from destroying his individuality.

Abilities

Kawaki is a remarkably powerful fighter, despite not being a ninja or knowing how to harness his chakra. He has been brutally trained in armed and unarmed combat by Jigen, as well as having extensive body modifications with a high-level Shinobi Ware and mastered the power of Kma from his training with Jigen. He has previously been able to destroy Gar’s jaw as well as dozens of robotic puppets.

Even though he was exhausted, his strength was enough to repel Team Konohamaru and fend off Gar, easily defeating and killing him after activating his Kama, and he would have killed Team Konohamaru with a single attack had Boruto not tapped into his own Kma and absorbed it, with Delta openly praising Kawaki’s might. Kawaki’s unique nature, according to Jigen, has the potential to become a “perfect Otsutsuki.”

Kama

Kawaki has the Isshiki Otsutsuki Kma mark, which he earned after being the only one to survive Jigen’s attempt to transfer his own Kama. Kawaki was already capable of activating the mark at will, though it did occasionally activate out of his control, and properly using its power thanks to his training under Jigen.

He could absorb ninjutsu and use it to create massive explosions. Using the mark, however, causes his body to overheat, knocking him out. When he and Boruto synchronize their Kma, they can create a Space-Time rift and travel to different dimensions.

With the progression of this mark, Kawaki has begun to access a transformed state subconsciously, manifesting a small horn on the left side of his head. The resonance created by Kawaki’s contact with Boruto, who carries Momoshiki’s Kma, accelerated the takeover rate of both vessels. Kawaki’s Kma was erased after Isshiki was forced to resurrect through Jigen. He was later branded with the different Kama.

Body Modifications

Kawaki’s body has been significantly altered by Amado, with microscopic technology implanted that constantly changes his physiology throughout his circulatory and nervous systems, transforming him into a living scientific ninja tool. Katasuke Tno considers the cybernetics in his body to be a work of art, at least as advanced as the prosthetic arm he designed for Naruto Uzumaki.

He also clarifies that, unlike Mitsuki, who is a genetically engineered synthetic human created with organic technology, Kawaki is a human who has been transformed into something else using inorganic technology.

His Shinobi-Ware consists of nanoscopic scientific ninja tools implanted throughout his entire body that appear to be able to make specific cellular changes, granting him unique superhuman abilities similar to those of a kekkei genkai.

His body tissue, for example, can undergo rapid cellular division, causing it to expand, as well as sclerosis or malacia, which causes it to harden or soften. This allows him to weaponize his body in a similar way to Jugo’s Sage Transformation, allowing him to create sharp blades or piercing tendrils.

These growths can also be shed or thrown as projectiles, allowing him to create a variety of tools and weapons for battle. This also allows him to heal at a faster rate, allowing him to heal his injuries in minutes. He can also send a powerful shockwave from his body in all directions, including the ground below him, either as a focus beam or in all directions.

When Kawaki’s right arm was destroyed by Delta’s Destruction Beam, Katasuke replaced it with a prosthetic that paled in comparison to his body’s advanced technology. It functions by siphoning small amounts of chakra from Naruto, and it does not work when Naruto sleeps or falls unconscious.

Furthermore, Kawaki’s modified body appears to be rejecting this replacement prosthetic because the technologies are incompatible due to their differences in complexity. After Isshiki’s death, Amado repaired and restored Kawaki’s arm.

Physical Strength

Kawaki is an expert in close-quarters combat. His fighting style is shown to be nimble and coordinated, with him flipping around to avoid enemy attacks and launching himself at the opponent using the environment. Following which, he is able to launch a barrage of strikes from each of his limbs in unison. He’s also a tough cookie. Despite being exhausted, he was able to withstand Gar’s ruthless assault and continue fighting effectively despite his injuries. Kawaki is later shown to be an expert with a b, equaling Boruto’s swordsmanship.

Ninjutsu

He began learning ninjutsu from the Seventh Hokage after moving to Konohagakure and developing an interest in it. This included chakra manipulation and shurikenjutsu, both of which he demonstrated a strong aptitude for, mastering the fundamentals in a short amount of time. With a single hand, he can also perform more advanced techniques like Fire Release and the Shadow Clone Technique. He also showed great ingenuity by cleverly deceiving others with the limited skill he has acquired.
