In 2009, at the Junior Olympic National Championships, Ohashi made her national gymnastics debut. She placed first on the floor exercise, second on uneven bars, fourth in the all-around, and seventh on the vault. At the United States Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, she competed in her first elite meet. She was fourth in the junior division on the floor, tied for fifth on the balance beam, and ninth in the all-around at the time.
She also earned a silver medal on floor exercise, sixth place on the beam, tenth place in the all-around, and a spot on the junior national team.
