Voice Actor of Kagaya Ubuyashiki
In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Matthew Mercer provides the English dub voice for Kagaya Ubuyashiki, while Toshiyuki Morikawa provides the Japanese voice.
Appearance
Kagaya is a young woman with fair skin and black shoulder-length hair. He has a curse mark on his body that is slowly killing him and making his skin look rotten, spreading down his face and covering his eyes, rendering him blind. By the time he died, the curse had spread all over his body, making movement nearly impossible. At Kagaya’s death, Muzan described him as having a Buddha-like smile.
He usually wears a black kimono with a long white haori that has a pink and purple misty pattern around the lower back/waist.
History
When Kagaya was only four years old, he became the Demon Slayer Corps’ leader. Kagaya met Amane for the first time when he was 13 years old when she was 17. She was chosen by a priest to be Kagaya’s wife in order to care for his medical needs, but he only agreed to the marriage if she cared for him of her own free will.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki Power and Abilities
Soothing Voice: Kagaya has the ability to put others at ease simply by the tone of his voice and the rhythm of his actions. as done with Tanjiro Kamado and the Hashira.
Foresight/Intuition: In addition to his unique voice, Kagaya (and the rest of the Ubuyashiki family) have a keen sense of foresight and intuition that has helped them avoid disaster and amassed a vast amount of wealth and fortune.
Because of this instinct, Kagaya was able to make accurate guesses about a variety of things that were later proven to be true and accurate without having any prior knowledge, as when he correctly predicted that Muzan’s only remaining weakness was the sun and that he could not be destroyed by decapitation, and that the deaths of Gyutaro and Daki would send waves that would eventually see that he was killed.

Personality
Kagaya has a calm demeanor, and he shows genuine concern for the Demon Slayers, even treating them as his children. He can also take criticism well and is forthright about his flaws, one of which is his inability to become a Demon Slayer despite being the group’s leader.
To make amends, he remembers every single member of the corps and pays daily visits to the corps’ deceased members at their cemetery until he is unable to move due to the curse.
While he may appear lenient, he is objective and free of prejudice, as evidenced by his willingness to accept Tanjiro and Nezuko’s situation (via a letter from Sakonji Urokodaki) and even defend their cause when others disagree. While his speech is generally fluid and gentle, it is extremely tactful, using words and intonations in such a way that the person he is speaking with will pay attention.
Even the initially passive Muichiro Tokito and the impulsive Sanemi Shinazugawa are able to be persuaded by his tactful and charismatic speech to listen to what he has to say without saying or conveying anything that would enrage them.
Due to their family’s curse, Kagaya is rather strict with his own kin, particularly his children. Despite this, he maintains the same gentle demeanor and aura toward them.
Trivia
- Kagaya and Seijiro Kikuoka from Sword Art Online have the same Japanese and English voice actors.
- According to Kagaya, the disease that currently afflicts him is a curse inflicted on his family as a result of them giving birth to the “Original Demon.” The illness is a genetic disorder that has been passed down through the Ubuyashiki family from generation to generation, leaving them with weak bodies and a lifespan of fewer than 30 years.
Quotes
- (To Tengen Uzui) “The path you chose is a hard one, Tengen. While denying the sense of values that was implanted into you during the formative years of your youth, you continued to put yourself in the field of battle. And while you carried all those different conflicts and contradictions, you… you all faced forward and fought, despite all that. To protect human lives. Thank you, you are a wonderful child.”
- (To Muzan Kibutsuji) “And it’s all because… I burn to defeat you, Muzan.
