Julio Jones made history as the first true freshman wide receiver to start for Alabama in a season opener against the Clemson Tigers in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff on August 30, 2008. With his outstanding performance, Julio was named ‘SEC Freshman of the Year,’ second-team All-SEC, and the ‘SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman Team’ by the end of the year.

Before the 2009 season, the football player was one of only four players unanimously selected to the ‘All-SEC Coaches’ Football Team.’ He led his previously underperforming team to the SEC Western Championship with a 12-0 record after a “sophomore slump” in the first half of the season.
