In the theater, Josh Gad met the love of his life.
But, in addition to his wife, Josh Gad found success in acting, something he had wished for since childhood.
His personal and professional lives were shaped by his first project. His first major stage role was also a foreshadowing of his personal life.
Wife on Stage first, then off Stage
Gad was born in Florida and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania. In order to make his dreams a reality, he majored in drama.
Josh Gad had always wanted to be an actor since he was a small child. But it wasn’t always easy to make a living as an actor.
Josh Gad had gotten nowhere even after three years of college.
“I felt like I was running in circles and doing nothing with my life,” he explained to I News in 2017. “So I decided to pursue a law degree.”
But it was his mother who encouraged him to keep going. And he succeeded, landing a role in David Ives’ play, All in the Timing, just a few months later.
This meant that his mother had indirectly set him on the path to meeting his significant other.
In his first role, he was cast alongside his future wife, Ida Darvish. On stage, they were supposed to play husband and wife.
“We were playing a married couple, and I was head over heels in love with her,” he said of his wife. They were four years apart in age — she was 19 and he was 23 at the time.
They were surprised to learn this, but it didn’t matter.
“It was one of those things that were just kismet,” Gad exclaimed. “We’ve been together since then.”
They will have been together for 18 years in 2022. His Valentine’s Day post was similar.
“18 years of loooooove (and Hallmark holidays) and counting!” he captioned his celebratory post. He also shared a throwback photo.
Gad and Darvish appeared to be in a good mood in the photo, which appeared to have been taken in a restaurant. She was smiling broadly as she leaned on his shoulder.
Gad struck a more sassy pose, which was perfectly complemented by his curls and rectangular glasses.
Josh Gad’s Family Life with His Children
Gad and Darvish have two children. Ava, their first child, was born on November 30, 2011.
Isabella Eve Gad, his second daughter, arrived on February 17, 2014.
His children are gradually becoming interested in movies and acting. They discovered the most when he began rewatching films in preparation for his web series, Reunited Apart, during the 2020 lockdowns.
Darvish took on the role of their home teacher during the quarantine period. She was in charge of their homeschooling, while he provided some forbidden phone time during their class breaks.
He was in charge of their morning walks, which were a lot more enjoyable than homeschooling.
Gad’s social media is full of posts thanking his wife and kids, and he isn’t afraid to share funny things that happen in his life with them.
