Career
In the early to mid-1980s, John Calipari began his coaching career at the University of Kansas. He started out as the “lowest coach in the pecking order,” serving food at the training table and performing other basic duties. By the late 1980s, John had worked as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh under Roy Chipman and Roy Evans. In 1988, he was named head coach at the University of Massachusetts.
He led the Minutemen to five straight Atlantic 10 titles and NCAA Tournament appearances during his time as head coach.
