Joel Embiid wasn’t searching for anything romantically serious when he met Anne de Paula.
In ESPN’s May cover story, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers discussed his NBA career as well as his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne de Paula.
The two met at a New York City dinner in 2018 through a mutual acquaintance, and Paula told the source that neither of them said much during the meal. Until he stood up after the meal and she noticed how tall he was, he wasn’t a basketball player.

Arthur Elijah de Paula Embiid, the couple’s first child, was born in September 2020, fulfilling the couple’s ambition of creating a family. Embiid, in classic Embiid manner, used social media to announce the news with a sense of fun.

The NBA player recently chatted with Marc Zumoff of NBC Sports Philadelphia about his first season as a father and fatherhood. While he was sad to leave home, he said it was lovely to watch his son grow every day and that being a parent was an amazing experience.

On Overcoming Obstacles

Embiid traveled to America to play in the NBA a year later. Before being drafted by Philadelphia in 2014, he spent the next few years of his life playing and honing his talents. Ascension to the top was challenging even after being drafted.

He was forced to miss the entire 2014-15 season after complications from his original foot surgery to fix a navicular bone. He ultimately healed, and by the next season, his swift and beautiful footwork and rim protection had proven to all those who doubted him. He is presently a well-known basketball player in the NBA.
