Jhené Aiko Credits Her Parents For Helping Her Become a Music Star!

Jhené Aiko is a well-known personality in the music industry, having released the smash EP Sail Out and the critically praised first album Souled Out. While her professional success is well-known, few people are aware that her parents, Dr. Karamo Chilombo and Christina Yamamoto, had an important part in her musical career.

Jhené Aiko’s parents are both of mixed ancestry

Both of Aiko’s parents are of mixed race. Christina’s mother is of Spanish, Dominican, and Japanese descent. Her father was a Japanese man who grew up in Compton, and her mother was a black woman. Aiko’s father was similarly of mixed ethnicity, as were his parents. Jhené Aiko is of mixed ethnicity due to their diverse ancestry.

Her illustrious ancestry, on the other hand, caused her problems at first. “It was just like no one got it, and they were all like, ‘How are you mixed with this, this, and this?'” Vice heard Aiko’s story.

It got to the point where people were perplexed about her ethnicity and would inquire, “What are you?” and she would just respond, “I am a female. I’m just a regular individual.” Aiko was so stressed up that she considered changing her last name.

Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo is her complete name, in case you didn’t know. She also considered altering her last name because no one could pronounce it right. However, when she grew older, she recognized how lovely her surname was. Her name, according to her, meant “dragon phoenix,” a wild beast. She has it tattooed on her back as well.

Aiko’s parents encouraged her to pursue her dream of becoming a musician

On March 16, 1988, Aiko was born as the youngest of five children. Thankfully, her parents, particularly her father, who aspired to be a singer, encouraged and supported his children’s musical interests. Her older sisters, Miyoko and Jamila, were members of the Gyál girl band in the 1990s.

Aiko had found refuge in music and had begun her career at an early age, following in their footsteps. She practiced writing songs in their garage studio, which her father had built. He even assisted her in songwriting and encouraged her to pursue her aspirations. Aiko signed with Epic Records when she was 13 years old. However, she terminated her contract there years later in order to finish her education.

“School was incredibly crucial to me to claim that I finished something, you know,” the legendary singer told Vice in 2017.

Aiko kept in touch with the producers she met, creating and singing demo songs, even if she didn’t devote her entire life to music. Her mum supported her throughout her career and new ventures.

Even when she divorced Aiko’s father after 20 years of marriage, she continued to do so. Despite her parents’ divorce, the star of the hit musical has maintained a positive relationship with her father and mother and is grateful for their unwavering support.

“Thank you for being so patient and gentle with me. Never obnoxious, always gentle, always graceful “On Mother’s Day 2021, she said on her Instagram post dedicated to her mother. Her mother, according to the 33-year-old, is “the essence of the Divine Feminine.”

On Father’s Day, she expressed a similar sentiment through an Instagram post. “Thank you for everything you’ve taught us and for letting us see your light! I adore you, Daddy “The photo of Aiko’s father was captioned by Aiko.
