In the year 2000, Jen moved to Los Angeles to pursue her hairstyling career after her high school graduation. Lorraine Schwartz who was a jewellery designer helped Atkin when she moved to LA. She began working as a receptionist at Estilo Salon in West Hollywood in 2000.
