After more than 25 years together, David Hyde Pierce and his husband, Brian Hargrove, married on October 24, 2008. During an interview on The View in May 2009, Pierce discussed his marriage to his longtime partner.
The Frasier star married Hargrove in a private ceremony only days before California passed Proposition 8, which outlawed same-sex marriage. Pierce and his husband were put in a difficult situation as a result of this.
“Brian and I kept a low profile at all times. We didn’t keep our lives hidden. “We married secretly last October 24 and thought everything was great,” he revealed.
“All of a sudden, California replied, ‘No, it’s not.’ What we assumed was a personal, private decision turned out to be anything but.”
Pierce and his partner eventually discovered that their marriage was legal because it took place during the limited period when same-sex marriages were permitted. Despite this, Pierce expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation and expressed his indignation over it. Because of the aforementioned occurrence, he said he had been active in gay-rights marches.
“I’ve been going because I had the experience of having a private matter dragged out into the open and people I don’t know voting,” he explained.
After playing Dr. Niles Crane in Frasier from 1993 to 2004, David Hyde Pierce and his partner Brian Hargrove Pierce earned great success as actors. However, with stardom came public scrutiny, and the actor has been candid about his dissatisfaction with his celebrity.
During an interview with Vulture, he noted, “It’s not something I’d ever been interested in or sought out.”
Pierce maintained a quiet profile during his career. As a result, there were numerous rumors and guesses about his sexuality. It wasn’t until 2007 that the actor came out as gay. His friends and family, on the other hand, have known about it for a long time.

He also told his folks about how he found out about it. “I brought the guy I was in love with a home with me.” And they met him, adored him, and welcomed him, and he became an instant family member.” Pierce met his husband for the first time in 1982. Pierce and Hargrove were both actors at the time, and they shared the same agency.
Due to the lack of open acceptance of gay people at the time, his partner, Hargrove, had a fictitious girlfriend. As a result, Pierce originally mistook Hargrove for a straight man. Pierce discovered his husband, Hargrove, was gay as they spent more time together, and they eventually got together.
Pierce and his partner have collaborated since then, not only in their personal lives but also in their professional lives. Pierce’s spouse wrote the screenplay and wrote the lyrics for the musical comedy It Shoulda Been You, which he also directed.
