Norma Gibson and her ex-husband Tyrese have been embroiled in a lengthy custody fight over their daughter Shayla, as we previously reported. After less than a year of marriage, they filed for divorce in October 2008, and Norma filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles in early 2009, requesting a modification of their custody agreement as well as a change in spousal and child support.
Tyrese, according to Norma’s court records, was an absentee father who did not support her or their daughter Shayla.

Meanwhile, Norma’s lawyer told People that all Norma wanted was for Tyrese to get treatment so that her daughter could have the relationship she deserved with her father.
The Fast and Furious star, on the other hand, told People that the charges were false and cruel. He expressed disappointment after learning that his child’s mother had made “gross and baseless” claims against him. He continued,
“Nothing in this world means more to me than my daughter, and I would never do anything to jeopardize her health or happiness.” Co-parenting is difficult, and it’s even more difficult when your partner tries to ruin the process by telling terrible lies and acting irrationally.”
Meanwhile, Shayla’s custody was awarded to both of her parents by a Los Angeles court in November 2017. Judge Shelley Kaufman is believed to have found no evidence of abuse against Shayla. In reality, Kaufman stated that the parents should resume shared parenting of their daughter in January 2018.
Norma was adamant about not working on her own
Norma and Tyrese have been divorced for nearly a decade, but their legal fights continue. In November 2018, their feud over Norma’s refusal to work made national headlines.
Norma did not show any enthusiasm in working when the court ordered her to work and become self-sufficient, prompting the singer to initiate a lawsuit. Tyrese’s lawyer said at the time that Norma felt no duty to work and contribute to their child’s upbringing.
The lawyer went on to say Tyrese, Norma would assume, would simply pay for everything because he was wealthy. Tyrese, on the other hand, was going through a financial crisis at the time, which was well-documented in the media.
