Lizzo is a big proponent of body acceptance and self-assurance. Whether it’s through her music, like as ‘Juice,’ or collaborations with corporations like Dove, she consistently promotes body positivity. She also doesn’t hesitate to clap back at folks who humiliate others’ bodies.
However, the artist has been in the heart of controversy when it comes to weight reduction and growth. Her path has been a rollercoaster, and she has faced a lot of criticism along the way.
Many people have complained that she promotes obesity, while others have criticized her for supposedly utilizing hazardous weight-loss methods.
Lizzo’s arduous weight-loss journey
The Grammy-nominated singer gets candid about her health and diet. She frequently posts them on her social media accounts, particularly TikTok and Instagram.
She also discusses any health-related procedures she has used. For example, she revealed in September 2020 that she had lost 50 pounds and had lost a lot of weight.
Lizzo flaunts her curves following her weight loss journey. In the same month, she posted a video on TikTok detailing her journey. She had been working out continuously for the past five years in order to get her dream body.
The singer stated that she was exercising for herself and her benefit, not for the sake of others. Around the same time, she went vegan and converted to a plant-based diet.
Her weight loss journey has also been boosted by this. However, two months later, in December 2020, she was met with a barrage of criticism for the same.
Backlash Against Detox Cleanse
She announced on Instagram that she was following nutritionist JJ Smith’s 10-day smoothie detox. She tried the cleanse after a period of heavy eating and drinking in Mexico, which upset her stomach.
The first video showed the singer of “Truth Hurts” demonstrating the smoothie list and finishing the 10-day challenge. She also flaunted her abs in athleisure on several days of her detox program.
In the second video, she did the same thing, talking about how the detox helped her with her stomach difficulties. She also used her Instagram stories to highlight the variations between Day 1 and Day 10. However, the performer received a lot of backlash after she shared her detox and weight-loss journey. People accused her of encouraging diet culture, claiming that it irritated some.
They also chastised her for being disingenuous and advocating for restrictive eating. They also accused her of provoking persons suffering from eating disorders.
On Instagram Stories, Lizzo defended herself
The artist then defended herself on Instagram stories. “Normally, I would be so embarrassed and ashamed to put things like this online,” she remarked.
She discussed how she is accused of doing anything for a spectacular weight loss rather than for their health as a “large girl.” That, however, was not the case.
She claimed that she felt better following the detox and that she was proud of herself and her outcome. It helped her sleep, mental clarity, hydration, and overall health.
“Every large female should do whatever the [expletive] they want with their bodies,” she continued, claiming to receive exactly what she wanted out of it.
True to her promise, the ‘Good as Hell’ singer isn’t afraid to admit whether she’s put on weight. She posted a dance on Instagram on January 3, 2022, to commemorate her weight gain.
She showed off her moves to City Girls’ ‘Rodeo.’ She commented on the captions, “I put on weight. TF GOODT, TF GOODT, TF GOODT, TF GOODT,”
As she congratulated herself, the responses were full of love and support for the artist.
