Naked and Afraid is a survival show set in the outdoors that belongs to a different genre of reality television.
While certain aspects of survival reality programs are contrived, pre-planned, or simply performed under expert supervision, others represent catastrophic situations in which ordinary individuals may not even survive a day.
While filming a few survival shows, mishaps, accidents, and even deaths have occurred. Is it, however, something that has happened on Naked and Afraid?
On ‘Naked and Afraid,’ has anyone died?
Naked and Afraid is a Discovery Channel reality show in which contestants must live in the wilderness for 21 days on their own. They can only bring one helpful personal item with them and must survive without clothing. Aside from that, they must locate food, shelter, and water in the woods to survive.
Although the survivalists have the option of leaving, the audience wonders if it’s all worth it. Some viewers have worried if a contestant has ever perished on the show due to the extreme conditions. No, that is not the case. On Naked and Afraid, there have been no deaths. However, some of the contestants, such as Manu Toigo and Samantha Ohl, have come dangerously close to losing their lives.
Some ‘Naked and Afraid’ contestants came dangerously close to losing their lives. While filming an episode of Naked and Afraid in 2013, Manu Toigo was bitten by a mosquito.
She admitted to TMZ in 2013 that she didn’t think much of the bite at the time, but that when she returned to Los Angeles, she began experiencing painful headaches and nosebleeds. Toigo’s condition had deteriorated to the point where she was unable to stand on her own. Her relatives hurried her to the hospital, where dengue hemorrhagic fever was diagnosed.
The Naked and Afraid star was hospitalized for two weeks before making a full recovery. She remarked that she would not change anything about her near-death experience despite her near-death experience.
“It was the most spectacular experience I could have ever had,” she said.
Samantha Ohl, the most recent contestant to have a near-death experience, was possibly the most recent. After getting caught in a thunderstorm while filming the season 8 episode ‘Stone Cold,’ she was visibly debilitated. She was adamant about not sharing her body heat with Adam. Ohl had suffered stage two, or moderate hypothermia, by the time he called for aid, and she couldn’t feel her limbs.
The paramedic on the scene, according to Yahoo! stories from 2017, was anxious that Ohl’s organs may shut down. Fortunately, he was able to get her to the hospital in a timely manner. Ohl was rehabilitated without any long-term repercussions. “My kids will see, you know, Mom did it,” she stated throughout her rehabilitation.
The last piece, she said, was too much for her body to endure. She was excited to give Adam a high-five and tell him, “We did it.”

Are ‘Naked and Afraid’ contestants compensated?
The question of whether or not the competitors on Naked and Afraid are paid has been disputed for years. The only award, according to the show’s official description, is pride and sense of success. In interviews, prior cast members have stated that they come on the show for the experience and to prove to themselves that they can survive in the wild.
Kristi Russell, the show’s casting director, was asked if there is a prize for those who complete the challenge in a 2015 interview with Channel Guide. She clarified, “There is no award.”
How are the participants compensated?
Despite the lack of a prize, the candidates are compensated for their time, according to Russell. They are compensated for their missed wages, she claims, with a monthly stipend.
They would also receive round-trip airline tickets to the location of the survival challenge. According to the Naked and Afraid regulations, which were published in 2014, the candidates would also be granted $5000 in cash.
Because the applicants’ physical and emotional well-being is at stake, the network only casts challengers who are physically fit for the survival task.
