On Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel portrayed an incredible mother-daughter duo. Their bond was more like that of best friends than that of a mother and her child.
Their on-screen chemistry was so strong that fans wondered if the couple met in real life. Or if their on-screen chemistry translated into a friendship in real life.
Here are some behind-the-scenes details about Graham and Bledel’s relationship.
Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham Before ‘Gilmore Girls,’ they had never met.
Unlike most actors who are cast alongside each other in a project, Graham and Bledel were thrown into the deep end right away.
They first met at a dinner with the show’s creators just before the show began filming. To make matters worse, this was Bledel’s first acting role.
Graham immediately impressed Bledel. She was 18 years old at the time, she reasoned “She possessed the poise, confidence, and energy of a performer! That was something new to me.”
Graham had “dazzled” her.
Graham, too, was taken with Bledel right away. “I also thought [she was] perfect for the character,” she admitted in a November 2016 interview with Glamour.
“Perfect. I thought we clicked and that we looked alike in enough ways “She went on to say. “I was always impressed by how much natural talent she had from the start.”
Bledel, as a newcomer, needed assistance acclimating to the big job. Graham would also assist her in this regard.
Everyone watching thought the two had great chemistry. People were particularly drawn to the scenes in which Graham would wrap her arms around Bledel or hold her hand.
However, these were not even mentioned in the script. During the shoot, Graham was simply directing Bledel to her target.
“The camera work on that show is very specific, and we really had to hit certain marks, which is just a foreign concept, especially when you’re starting out,” she explained to TODAY in 2015.
In response to the ‘great chemistry’ comments, she also joked, saying, “I’m mowing her down. That is the reason.”
Are Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel Real-Life Friends?
Even though they spent a lot of time together on-screen and had a great connection, they didn’t become best friends off-screen.
In March 2014, Graham stated that she and Bledel would “always have a special bond.” She also stated that they had seen each other previously.
Despite the fact that they didn’t see each other all the time, they stayed in touch.
Graham was aware of Bledel’s relationship with her now-husband, Vincent Kartheiser. She congratulated them on their Twitter engagement.
However, it is unknown whether she was invited to their secret wedding in August 2014.
The two had already spent a significant amount of time together at work. Graham stated in 2005 that they had spent time together away from work, but that if they spent as much time together on set as they did off set, they would never be alone.
