Garry Meier, best known as an active radio personality, worked in the media for 45 years. At the age of 23, he began his career as a DJ for WFYR. Garry worked as an overnight DJ for networks such as WYEN and WLUP after working there for a year. Garry met morning DJ Steve Dahl at WLUP and decided to start a radio show with him.

The show eventually took the name The Steve & Garry Show. The show was a stepping stone for the radio duo, as it received high ratings on WLUP. With the success of the show, Garry and Steve organized the Disco Demolition Night event. The main goal of the event was to put an end to disco for good.
